The Principal Trumpet of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Joshua MacCluer is a versatile and accomplished musician who is in demand worldwide in many styles as a trumpeter, composer, arranger, and record producer.
Equally comfortable in a concert hall or jazz club, Josh MacCluer has performed in 23 countries in many styles outside of classical music, including jazz, rock, blues, salsa, funk,, and reggae. He has appeared on stage with innumerable fine musicians including Wayne Shorter, Bobby McFerrin, Doc Severinsen, Liza Minnelli, Ben Folds, Arturo Sandoval, Sumi Jo, Kristin Chenoweth, Jason and Branford Marsalis, the Smothers Brothers, Idina Menzel, Blood Sweat and Tears, Paul Newman, Placido Domingo, Sufjan Stevens and many others. Joshua plays jazz in a modern style but with a strong sense of tradition and is strongly influenced by such luminaries such as Miles Davis, Wynton Marsalis and Freddie Hubbard. A believer in the importance of communicating with the audience, Josh includes the audience in his performances by describing his personal connection with the music he plays. Music is about telling stories and painting pictures, and Josh includes his listeners in this artistic process.
