The Weekly Grub: 5 Things to Eat & Drink this Week

From delicious Peruvian cuisine at Shangri-La Hotel’s Blue to a new oyster and cocktail happy hour deal at The Black Swan, here’s our roundup of 5 things to eat and drink in Singapore this week.

Peru on 8 Plates at Shangri-La Hotel

We love OLA Cocina Del Mar, so we’re particularly psyched by this collaboration between Peruvian-born Chef Daniel Chavez and Shangri-La’s Executive Chef Franco Brodini. The four day dinner pop-up special will present a tasting menu of eight dishes, each one showcasing a different aspect of Peruvian culture.

Priced at $138++ per person, this dinner is available 25 to 28 February 2016, 7pm onwards at BLU, Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, 22 Orange Grove Road, Singapore 258350. For bookings, please call +65 6213 4398 or email dining.sls@shangri-la.com.

New Menu at Mr & Mrs Maxwell Café

Cosy hotel café Mr & Mrs Maxwell have gone through a menu shake-up and their new offerings consist of familiar flavours and comfort classics. Think dishes like the English Fry up ($18);  a hearty mix of sunny side-ups, grilled sausages, bacon and sautéed mushrooms with homemade brioche, and the Elvis’s French Toast ($14); a sweet take on The King of Rock n’ Roll’s favourite sandwich.

Mr & Mrs Maxwell is located at The Club Hotel, 28 Ann Siang Road, Singapore 069708, p. 6808 2181. Open Sun-Thurs 7am-11pm. Fri-Sat 7am-12am.

The Apéritivo Tradition at Chihuly Lounge

Steeped in rich tradition, Italian aperitifs have stimulated the appetites and aided digestion of diners for many years. This February, the folks at Chihuly Lounge are bringing back the apéritivo tradition to the Ritz-Carlton Singapore with an eclectic range of antipasti offerings along with a selection of wines, cocktails and draft beer. Look forward to sumptuous items like the Iberico Chorizo on Toast with Pickled Onion and Prosciutto Melon with White Balsamic Jelly alongside classic aperitif tipples such as the Aperol Spritz.

“The Apéritivo Tradition” is available at $55++ per adult from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Chihuly Lounge is located at Ritz-Carlton Singapore, 7 Raffles Avenue, Singapore 039799, p. 6434 5288. Open daily 9.30am-1am.

Craft Beer Pairing Dinner at Esquina

In this era, it’s pretty tough to think of a term bandied around more than ‘tapas’. Having said that, Singapore is, at least, home to some bona fide purveyors of this genre of cuisine, like Jason Atherton’s Esquina. This Jiak Chuan Road restaurant will be pairing a selection of snacks and a splendid five-course menu with craft beers from all over the globe, like Dead Pony Club (Scotland) and Duchesse de Borgone (Belgium).

Priced at $118++ per person, this dinner is happening at Esquina, 16 Jiak Chuan Road, Singapore 089267, on Wednesday, 24 February from 7pm onwards. For reservations, please call 6222 1616 or email info@esquina.com.sg.

Oysters & Cocktail Happy Hour at The Black Swan

We’re already fans of The Black Swan’s old world glamour and bistro classics, but they’re about to sweeten the deal even more with a spanking new happy hour deal that spells value-for-money. From Mondays to Fridays, 5pm to 8pm, diners can look forward to luscious oysters at the eye-opening price of $2 each. Those looking for more than happy hour beer and wine can head upstairs to The Powder Room for signature cocktails at $12 apiece during the same period.

The Black Swan is located at 19 Cecil Street, Singapore 049704, p. 6438 3757. Open Mon 11.30am-11pm. Tues-Thurs 11.30am-12pm. Fri 11.30am-1am. Sat 5pm-1am. Closed on Sun.

When Joel’s not partaking in one of his shameless eating sessions, he likes to think of himself as a sponge – absorbing the mysteries and beauty of our world – be it through a good book or a wacky jaunt in a foreign country.
