Hola, nomads! After a gut-busting long weekend of pineapple tarts, bak kwa, and love letters, you think/feel you should be going on a diet but frankly, we think you should wait till Chinese New Year is truly over. This week, we have places to recommend for your upcoming get-togethers where your taste buds don’t have to suffer.
Open Door Policy’s New Brunch Bunch
Tiong Bahru stalwart and Spa Esprit darling Open Door Policy have launched a new brunch menu alongside refreshing new tipples by Tippling Club’s Head Bartender Kamil Foltan. For familiar flavours executed well, order up the Ham & Cheese Croque Madame ($26). Those looking for something unique would do well with the the Eggs Benedict with Poached Chicken ($21) and green curry hollandaise sauce while the Buttermilk Pancakes with Crème Patisserie ($22) will satisfy the sweet tooth.
For booze to go with your brunch, sample their range of sours ($18-20) – we like the Amaretto and Gin & Raspberry.
Basilico’s New Basilissimo Dinner Menu
While we’re happy to fuel up on just Italian antipasti and desserts anytime (yes, you have that option at Basilico‘s buffet line), we wouldn’t miss Chef Ciccone’s inimitable new Basilissimo dinner menu ($88 per person), which includes an a la carte main course selection! Every quarter of the year will feature dishes that echo the nuances of each region’s cuisine, so from now till 31 March 2015, feast on the gastronomical treasures – we thoroughly enjoyed the gorgeous Roman-style Roasted Pork Belly, Tiger Prawn Risotto, and Grilled Angus Beef Tenderloin with braised artichokes – of Central Italy. We can’t wait to see what pops on the menu in April!
Red House Seafood’s New Takesumi Buns
If you love dipping your mantous in chili crab sauce (the crab can even be optional), try Red House Seafood‘s innovative Takesumi Buns ($8 for 3 pieces) – think juicy and flavourful chunks of chili crab encased in warm, soft charcoal buns. Now you can have chili crab for breakfast, lunch, and tea too. For more feel-good dim sum, try their Truffle Wild Mushroom Dumpling ($4 for 3 pieces) and Custard Bun ($4 for 3 pieces).
Greenhouse’s Weekday Buffet Specials
Located at The Ritz-Carlton, Greenhouse is home to one of the best buffet lines in Singapore. From now till 26 March 2015, the folks at Greenhouse are bringing more cheer to your weekday dinners ($72++ per adult).
Stiletto Tuesdays is their take on ladies night, where dining privileges (read: discounts) commensurate with the height of the highest heel! On Crab and Beer Night, the eponymous crustacean will be incorporated into 12 delectable dishes like Singapore Chili Crab. Top up $16++ for free-flow Tiger draft beer. Truffle fans, Truffle Rhapsody Thursdays at Greenhouse feature a handcrafted selection of truffle infused dishes such as Onsen Egg with Truffle and Choron Sauce.
Chinatown Food Street’s Extended Playtime
In light of the Chinese New Year festivities, Chinatown Food Street has extended its opening hours (till 31 March 2015) to 2am from Monday to Thursday and to 3am from Friday to Sunday. So if you’re feeling peckish after a drinking bout in the area, you know where to go for a cheap supper!
