The Weekly Grub: Your Midweek Foodie Pick Me Up

Hey ho, fellow foodies! Welcome to the inaugural edition of our weekly food news bulletin where we tell you which restaurant’s updated their menu or might be having a special for a limited time. We hope this makes hump day a little easier to get over. Here we go:

Manhattan’s New Menu

Regent Singapore’s glitzy bar has introduced new cocktails and bar bites inspired by a new neighbourhood of New York City – the Lower East Side. The epicenter of immigrant cultures has replaced the financial district of Wall Street on the menu. The Third Wave ($24) is Head Bartender Ricky Paiva’s delicious take on the Espresso Martini, which also pays tribute to the Third Wave Coffee movement that saw the rise of indie coffeeshops in the neighbourhood.

Another new addition is Scotch-based Penicillin ($23), Ricky’s variation of the ‘cocktail cure-all’ created by Sam Ross of Milk & Honey (a pioneer of the cocktail renaissance). Foodwise, look forward to munchies like the 99 Miles Filet Mignon ($25) inspired by the Philly cheesesteak and Smoked Marlin Fish Dip ($18).

Chabuton Singapore’s Exclusive: The Kurobuta

Chef Yasuji Morizumi, aka the world’s first Michelin-starred ramen chef, has created a bowl of ramen exclusive to Singapore. Available till 31 March 2015 at Chabuton‘s three outlets, The Kurobuta ($18.90++) stars tender Kurobuta pork, bamboo shoots, Japanese leek, soft-boiled egg, and ramen in a delectable blend of tonkotsu and chicken collagen broth.

Italiano Fiesta at Marriott Singapore

From now till 17 February 2015, Marriott Café is putting Italian flavours in the spotlight with dishes like Gnocchi Alla Romana (Romana-style semolina dumplings), Spezzatino Con Piselli E Patate (stewed beef with green peas & potato), and Abbacchio Alla Romana (braised lamb shoulder) on their buffet line (from $58++, available both lunch and dinner).

Their Pool Grill is also offering an Italiano Business Set Lunch at $33++ (inclusive of free flow ice teas and hot beverages) per person till 1 March 2015. Expect delicious courses like Beef Carpaccio with Parmesan Cheese, Slow Cooked Pork Shoulder with Fennel Confit, and Amaretto Semifreddo with Chocolate Sauce.

Valentine’s Day at Lady M Confections

The folks at Lady M have launched a luscious cake in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Available only for the month of February, the Framboise au Chocolat is a moist chocolate sponge cake encased with raspberry compote layered with velvety dark chocolate mousse. Polished with raspberry glaze, this confection is priced at $8++ per piece and is available at all three outlets.

Celebrate Chinese New Year at Din Tai Fung

For a pocket-friendly reunion with your pals, Din Tai Fung’s Prosperity Salmon Yusheng (from $32.80, available till 5 March 2015) features Norwegian smoked salmon alongside Tianjin roasted chestnnuts, fresh silvers of jellyfish, and twirls of crispy yam. To luxe up your yusheng, you can opt to add ingredients like sliced Australian abalone ($13.80), fried salmon skin ($4.80), or pine nuts ($2.80).

As a Chinese New Year treat, they’re also offering complimentary Peanut & Black Sesame Glutinous Rice Balls with a minimum expenditure of $90. Citibank cardholders need to only spend $80 and also receive a 15% discount on the yusheng.
