National Day has a special place in every Singaporean’s heart. While plenty of people get to fulfil their wanderlust by taking vacations over the extra-long weekend, we know some of you are staying home to celebrate 50 years of independence. As a reward, we’ve sussed out the best dinners and parties in Singapore to be at on the 9th of August this year.

1-Altitude

Fun fact: did you know Singaporeans are the biggest consumers of Scotch whisky per capita? We suppose that’s why we can’t say no to such a failsafe combo of great music, splendid company, and Scotch whisky. In the spirit of SG50 and supporting local, Clarke Quay’s resident Scottish pub and restaurant are throwing a party with a spotlight on their resident homegrown band, Stereofly.

OverEasy

CÉ LA VI

Lantern

Long Chim
Celebrate the spice of life with David Thompson’s Long Chim as the Thai restaurant commemorates Singapore’s Golden Jubilee with a special set menu ($89++ per person) of fiery Thai classics. Tipple-holics can also indulge in either a 4-cocktail flight, or a pair of SG50 Golden Jubilee cocktails at $50 nett each. The Ramada and Days Hotels
Avoid the traffic and head on down to The Ramada and Days Hotels’ two restaurants for a tantalising gastronomical feast. Immerse yourself in Singapore’s multi-faceted culinary heritage at the halal-certified 21 on Rajah‘s SG50 dinner buffet ($46++), where you an expect a delectable array of local faves like Sambal Sea Bass, Hokkien Mee and Butter Chicken Masala. Flavours at Zhongshan Park‘s version of the SG50 dinner buffet ($49++) goes the modern Asia route with offerings like Prawns with Yuzu Sauce and Pumpkin Panna Cotta.

Fairmont Singapore
Know someone born in 1965? Take them out to Fairmont Singapore’s Asian Market Cafe! The buffet restaurant’s SG50 promotion includes a special $0.50++ price for all those who turn 50 this year when they’re accompanied by two full-paying guests. So spend time family and friends over a sumptuous culinary spread, with the likes of Rojak, Chilli Crab, Laksa, and Char Kway Teow making appearances on the menu.

Nara Thai
50 is the magic number at Nara Thai this August, as the Thai restaurant will be dishing out 4 of their best-sellers for the glorious price of $50. Tuck into hearty servings of Phunim Phad Pong Karee (soft shell crab with yellow curry), Yum Som O (pomelo salad), Moo Yang Jim Jaew (pork neck with tamarind dip), and Phad Pak Boong (stir-fried spinach).

Catalunya
Inspired by Singaporean cuisine, Catalunya’s National Day dining set features the Txangurro (traditional Basque crab dish) and a Jubilee cocktail (a blend of coconut and pandan) for the price of just $50. Following dinner, revellers can head to the swanky bar to catch the magnificent fireworks.
