It’s that time of the year when we scare ourselves silly just for the fun of it and if you didn’t have a great one last year, we’re here to save your Halloween 2014. Celebrate the gruesome, the creepy, and the absolutely revolting with a treat or two with our top 5 picks for the spooky season:
Universal Studios Singapore® Halloween Horror Nights® 4
Ever since HHN arrived at Universal Studios Singapore back in 2011, it has practically become THE place to go when October arrives. This year, Halloween Horror Nights 4 is being led by MOE (calm down kids, we’re referring to the Minister of Evil), a demon-commander that enjoys instilling fear and torture. Jack the Clown is into all things bloody and murderous – so much so that they gave him his own 3D horror house filled with his evil clown friends this year. Upping the ante on the local fear factor is Mati Camp, where Singaporean men will get to relive their freaky army days. Means girls and boys of the past will learn the consequences of bullying the hard way when you enter the school-themed horror house. Don’t worry, the spoilers end here, so go get your tickets already!
Halloween Horror Nights® 4 is happening at Universal Studios Singapore®, Resorts World Sentosa. For more information and tickets, see here. Note that it’s not recommended for children under the age of 13, and neither costumes nor masks are allowed.
Hell on Wheels
The folks at Propaganda throw amazing parties, so we’re sure you’re in for a ridiculously good time on their annual Halloween bus tour that includes free entry to 4 of Singapore’s hottest bars and clubs, the first drink at the venues, and copious amounts of booze on the bus. All you need is your ticket, a kickass costume, and an unhealthy penchant for drinking (otherwise make it your cheat day, it’s Halloween!). So grab your friends and hop of the party bus for a wild night out – oh, and be prepared to leave your conscience (and consciousness) behind.
Hell on Wheels is happening 1 November 2014, 6.30pm till late, starting at Potato Head Folk, 36 Keong Saik Road, Singapore. For more information, see here, and get your tickets here.
Freq’ender
If you’re a fan of electronic dance music, trance, and techno, the Freq’ender indoor music festival is right up your alley. Expect two nights of good vibes and quality music with the cool lineup of DJs. Day 1 sees Hot Chip, 2ManyDJs, and Doorly helming the deck alongside the creepy costume mania (included your own) of the FREQ’show performers. The second night will feature the audio-visual spectacular of Godskitchen’s Mekanika, as well as DJs Glowinthedark, Marco V, and Wolfpack spinning for some major head-bopping and dancing. With the party going on till 5am in the morn’, you’ll be celebrating Halloween in a true vampire fashion.
Freq’ender is happening 31 October – 1 November 2014, 8pm to 5am, at Infinite Studios, 21 Media Circle, Singapore 138562. For more information, see website, and get your tickets here.
Once Upon a Nightmare at Clarke Quay
For the spontaneous, Clarke Quay has always been one of the prime spots to hit during the season of creepy for the Halloween-themed parties and specialty cocktails concocted in the spirit of the season. Hosted by 987FM DJs Muttons On The Move, you’ll find live music performances, stage games, face painters, and more at the entertainment enclave’s mega party. Come in your most twisted fairytale get-up and stand a chance to win up to $200 worth of F&B Dining vouchers. The main party might wrap up at midnight but more than a few of Clarke Quay’s residents – Pints & Curries, The Chupitos Bar, and The Forbidden City amongst others – are offering exclusive Halloween deals so head on over to continue partying!
Once Upon a Nightmare is happening 31 October 2014, 9.30pm – 11.30pm, at Clarke Quay Central Fountain Square. For more information, see website.
Helter Skelter at Hard Rock Cafe Sentosa
We know that not everyone likes crazy parties. For a chill-out Halloween, head down to Hard Rock Cafe at Resorts World Sentosa for a drink or two, a great dinner, and some good music. Besides getting all decked out for the occasion, the restaurant has come up with special and deadly Halloween-themed concoction for the day. The Dracula Kiss, a yummy mix of dark rum, red wine and tripe-sec liqueur served up in a big punchbowl ($160++, 15 servings), is best enjoyed with a bunch of your best mates. Local band Everton Park will also be playing at 9.30pm, and don’t leave without getting the special Halloween Hard Rock collectible pin to remember the night.
Hard Rock Cafe is located at #01-209 The Forum, 26 Sentosa Gateway, Singapore 098138. Call 6795 7475 for reservations.
