Greetings, all you bored critters out there! As we’re gearing up for the year end festivities at City Nomads, we’re still making sure that all of you have fun this week, so here are our top 5 picks for the week:
For the art aficionados – Affordable Art Fair
Feast your eyes on 108 local and international galleries showcasing works of art from 950 different artists at the 5th edition of Affordable Art Fair in Singapore. Besides the live creation of artwork, art talks, and multi-disciplinary workshops, the Children’s Art Studio will keep your little ones occupied (if you decide to bring them). You don’t need deep pockets to bring a piece of art home either – check out the ‘Under $1000 Wall’ for reasonably priced art pieces.
The Affordable Art Fair is running 20-23 Nov 2014 at the F1 Pit Building. For more information and tickets, visit their website.
For connoisseurs of wine-paired dinners – Beaujolais Wines at Fullerton Bay Hotel
A time-old tradition in the food establishments of Beaujolais and Lyon in France has become a worldwide phenomenon. Renowned for it’s distinctive fruity taste and reputation for being a great complement with food, try this year’s vintage of the coveted Beaujolais Nouveau wine at Clifford with a glorious 5-course French dinner presented by one Michelin-starred Chef Alain Souliac and “King of Beaujolais” wine producer Georges Duboeuf. Expect dishes like Pike Perch Fillet Roasted with Verjuice and Demi Saint Marcelin Cheese with Mesclun Salad to accompany the free-flowing Beaujolais wine at $138++ per person.
French Fanfare at Clifford is happening from 21-25 Nov 2014 at the The Fullerton Bay Hotel. For more information, visit their Facebook page. For reservations, call 6597 5288 or email clifford@fullertonbayhotel.com.
For treasure hunters – Mystica 2014
Explore a magical playground in the dark wilderness of the Night Safari at Mystica 2014. Embark on your adventures, where there are puzzles to be navigated and curious creatures will guide you to secret locations with hidden ‘gems’. A surprise awaits when you cash in your treasure and complete the Mystica Quest. Look out for various mystical entities like the Ravishing Raven, the Ebullient Jumparoo and Z-mazing Zebras along the way. Speed and vigilance is of essence as the first 200 guests to complete the quest each night will walk away with an awesome prize!
Mystica 2014 is running Fridays and Saturdays, from 5.30pm, 21 Nov – 20 Dec 2014, at the Night Safari For more information and tickets,,please visit their website.
For the contemplative – Waiting for Godot
An absurdist tragicomedy exploring the different faces of human nature, the play revolves around Vladimir and his friend Estragon awaiting the imminent arrival of Godot. Shortly after the meeting of a landowner named Pozzo and his servant Lucky, a young boy arrives to tell the pair Godot will arrive tomorrow instead. In the 2nd act, Pozzo and Lucky return, but they’re blind and mute respectively. Few plays such as Waiting for Godot invite such fierce debate over the interpretation of the theatrical performance due to its elemental nature.
Waiting for Godot is happening from 19-23 Nov, at SOTA Drama Theatre. For more information and tickets, please see SISTIC.
For the synth-pop devotees – CHVRCHES Live in Singapore
After a truly impressive performance at Laneway earlier in the year, CHVRCHES are back in town once again. Since releasing their debut album The Bones of What You Believe last year, the band has been sharing their sound – infused with various electronic synth rhythms and heart pumping beats – with the world. Taking inspiration from heavyweights in the music industry like Michael Jackson, Depeche Mode and Prince, CHVRCHES have successfully incorporated many different music techniques in their musical arsenal that’ll surely thrill live audiences too.
CHVRCHES will be playing live on 21 Nov at The Coliseum, Hard Rock Hotel, Resorts World Sentosa. For more information and tickets, please see website.
