This week’s top pick of events features a series of firsts – including Singapore’s first ever taco eating competition, first night time party run, first staging of a Broadway hit and first ever sake festival. All these firsts are getting us hot and flustered! The solution? Finish things off and cool down with a mass water fight! It’s all here in our pick of top things to do in Singapore this week:
1. Fill your face with tacos at Singapore’s first ever taco eating competition!
If you think you’ve got game and stamina on the eating capacity front, don’t miss Singapore’s first ever taco eating competition being held at Lucha Loco this week. This is bound to be quite a spectacle so if you don’t think your tummy can handle it, why not go and cheer on the participants as they get busy seeing how many tacos they can fill their faces with in 10 minutes. So wrong but ultimately so funny.
The Lucha Loco Taco Challenge is taking place on 9th April, from 8pm at Lucha Loco, 15 Duxton Hill, Singapore, 089598. For more information see Lucha Loco’s Facebook page here.
2. Rave it up at the Sketchers Electric Run
The most awesome sounding party run we’ve ever heard of is finally here in Singapore and promises to take you through a 5k electric wonderland course of glowing neon trees, rainbow tunnels, psychedelic scapes and many more insane looking lands – and all to the sound of mad beats. The whole thing sounds like one massive rave on legs, so grab your glowsticks and anything else that looks like you swiped it off an alien and get ready to get your heart and mind pumping.
The Electric Run is taking place on 11th & 12th April at F1 Pit Building, 1 Republic Blvd, Singapore, 038975. For more information see the Electric Run website here.
3. Catch the Singapore premier of the The Wedding Singer on stage
Based on the smash romcom movie starring Adam Sandler as the hapless 80s wedding singer, this musical adaptation from Broadway is being unleashed on stage and promises to charm and entertain as it follows a group of friends who fall in love, fall out of love and yet manage to finally connect with each other at the end. Performed by the students from the Musical Theatre programme at LASALLE, the tickets are only $15 so grab one and do your bit to support the local arts scene.
The Wedding Singer is showing on 11th – 16th April at The Singapore Airlines Theatre, LASALLE College of the Arts, 1 McNally Street, Singapore, 187940. For more information and ticketing see SISTIC here.
4. Make a date with sake at at the Sake Festival Singapore
Singapore’s first ever sake festival will whisk you into a world of sake this week with over 200 varieties of Japanese liquor being showcased plus 30 sake masters flying in from Japan to share their experience, knowledge and sake love. If you have a soft spot for sake, this is going to be a superb and probably quite drunken opportunity to taste a vast selection of sakes. Kanpai!
Sake Festival Singapore is taking place on 12th April at ME.OUE, 50 Collyer Quay, Singapore, 049321. For more information and ticketing see SISTIC here.
5. Cool down at Songkran 2014
The celebration of the Thai New year is here and that undoubtedly means one thing – prepared to get wet! With the current heat, what better respite than this Water Festival Celebration which will be Singapore’s biggest yet – and a chance to experience Songkran festivities outside of Thailand with a line up of music, a bazaar, a carnival, a Muay Thai exhibition and of course the best bit – the chance to splash water on everyone in one big water fight! YES!!
Songkran 2014 is taking place on 12th – 13th April at The Padang, 3 St Andrew’s Rd, Singapore, 178958. For more information see here.
