If you’re wondering where the year went, don’t worry, us too. So don’t let this week pass you by – we have a concert, a Halloween party (yes, already), a wicked theatre production, and two boozy festivals for wine and whisky connoisseurs. Enjoy!
For jazz, funk, and world music fans – Snarky Puppy
New York-based instrumental fusion band Snarky Puppy is finally performing in our fair city this Thursday. Led by bassist, composer and producer Michael League, this 10-year old music collective’s most recent album, Family Dinner – Volume One, won a Grammy for Best R&B Performance with guest artist Lalah Hathaway. These boys are also hitting up the likes of Blue Note Tokyo and Melbourne Jazz Festival on this tour, so don’t miss their one-night only show in Singapore.
Snarky Puppy will be performing 23 October 2014, 7.30pm, at Kallang Theatre. For more information and tickets, see here.
For the wine worshipper – Wine Fiesta 2014
Featuring over 70 winemakers and 300 wines from all over the world, event goers can also learn more about their vino during the 10 masterclasses daily that are conducted by wine experts like Mr. Joel Payne, the founder of the German Wine Guide). Key winemakers will also be hosting a special wine pairing dinner on 23 October at The Fullerton Bay Hotel, where guests will be able to sample 60 iconic wines like the CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva 2004 (Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year) and Marques de Murrieta Castillo Y’gay Gran Riserva Especial 2005 (96 points by Wine Advocate),
Wine Fiesta is happening 23 – 26 October 2014, at Clifford Square at The Fullerton House. For more information and tickets, see here.
For the criminologist – Frozen
This has nothing to do with the song Let It Go – in fact, it’s a far cry from the Disney animated movie. Directed by Tracie Pang and starring local thespians Adrian Pang, Karen Tan, and Janice Koh as a serial killer, a mum, and a psychologist respectively, Frozen chronicles the horrific circumstances that draw the three individuals together. Referring to their emotional paralysis, watch the three of them ‘melting down’ on stage as the dark story unfolds. For more details, see our interview with the cast here.
Frozen is running 23 October to 9 November 2014 at the Esplanade Theatre Studio. For more information and tickets, see here.
For those mad for whiskey – Whisky Live 2014
A gathering of 65 brands, some of the world’s most famous distilleries, and five of the best cocktail bars in Singapore, Whisky Live promises to be an epic celebration of premier whiskey and spirits. Cocktails aside, guests can also expect cheese pairing by The Cheese Ark, cigar pairings, and food pairing by Burnt Ends. Did we mention that we’ll be taking part too? Drop by the City Nomads booth and challenge yourselves to our blind whisky tasting booth – you’ll stand a chance to win all 5 bottles being tasted. See you there!
Whiskey Live 2014 is happening 25 October 2014, 10am-10pm, at Bar & Billiard Room, Raffles Hotel. See our features for the best buys of the event and what exactly to expect. Head over to SISTIC to get your tickets.
For the super sleuths – Whodunit?
We might have our 5 must-dos for Halloween sorted, but the annual Halloween Party at The White Rabbit is always good fun. Paying homage to the greatest crooks, criminals, investigators and spies of all time this year, it’s time to get your best detective costume on. The folks at The White Rabbit will be awarding amazing prizes – such as a 3D2N stay at The Santai Umalas in Bali and a luxe staycation at Wanderlust Hotel – to the best-dressed, most curious costume, and extreme group outfits.
Whodunit? is happening 25 October 2014 at The White Rabbit, 39C Harding Road, Singapore 249541. RSVP at their Facebook event page here or call 9721 0536 for more information.
