Top 5+1 Things to Do in Singapore This Week: 15th – 21st September

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d know that it’s race weekend in Singapore. So this week’s roundup is a little different with this high-octane sport and its celebrity athletes descending upon our shores.

For those who would like to escape the buzz, we don’t think its possible to completely avoid the noise pollution (literally and metaphorically), get ready to chalk up retail therapy, a theatrical production, and a photography workshop on your list. Interested in F1 but don’t want to splash the cash to see Lewis Hamilton zoom by? We have two cool parties – more affordable than the likes of Amber Lounge and Podium Lounge – and an F1-inspired art exhibition. Have fun!

Retail Religion Pop Up

It’s never too early to start your Christmas shopping, really. Head down to Shiva Designs, purveyor of all things design-centric and bespoke, this Tuesday and Wednesday to shop gorgeous homewares, jewellery, as well as fashion for both big people and kids. On top of Shiva Designs and labels like Cape Breeze, Emma Laue, Elverd Designs, and Hat of Cain, we heard that there’s going to be bubbly on Tuesday evening, plus cake and coffee on Wednesday.

Retail Religion Pop Up is happening 16 September 6-9pm and 17 September 10am-4pm at Shiva Designs, 3 Namly Grove, Singapore 267298. For more information, see Facebook Page.

Be Insta Good!

If you’re on Instagram and are constantly wondering how other Instagrammers post more awesome photos than you do, join freelance photographer Jelito de Leon’s (who has about 60, 000 followers on the social media feed) class. Not only will he teach you the fundamentals, like manipulating your phone camera for the best lighting and angles and the best apps for photo editing, he’ll take the class around Tiong Bahru to put your new skills to practice too. And don’t think this is only for the Insta-addicts, small business owners who’d like to harnass the marketing power of Instagram would probably find it beneficial too.

Be Insta Good! is happening 17-19 September 10am-1pm and 20 September 12pm-3pm, at Bloesem Creative Space, 77 Seng Poh Road #01-81, Singapore 161077. For more information and to book your spots, see website.

Cry, Trojans! (Troilus & Cressida)

New York City-based The Wooster Group brings you a radically reworked rendition of what is arguably Shakespeare’s most difficult play with fascinating sets and costumes and complex soundscapes. Reimagining the Trojans as a fictional tribe of Native American ‘Indians’ struggling to assert its dignity against impending doom, the troupe portrays a besieged people who suffer the downfall of their beloved hero (aka Hector of Troy) and sees the corruption of sincere love (Troilus & Cressida).

Cry Trojans! is running 18-20 September 8pm and 21 September 3pm at SOTA Studio Theatre, 1 Zubir Said Drive, Singapore 227968. For more information, see here. For tickets, see SISTIC.

Showcasing motor racing inspired art by renowned British artists Paul Oz and Nikki Douthwaite aside, Icon Gallery will also be launching the Memento Exclusives brand in Singapore that turns recycled race-used Formula One parts into retail products like the Formula One Exhaust Lamp and Formula One Brake Disk Clock. Poolside Pitstop Party

After its success last year, the folks at lifestyle marketing agency Massive Collective are collaborating with Pan Pacific Hotel once again. The 2-day Poolside Pitstop Party allows revelers to catch the F1 races live and up close from a vantage point on level 4 of the hotel while soaking up the sun. Day 1’s DJ lineup screams girl power, featuring Dream resident DJs TINC and Vxlerie, as well as Brazilian model/DJ Alexia Rautter while the second evening sees an all-male lineup of Smith Agent Smith and Mikey Moran (Jakarta), among others.

Poolside Pitstop Party is happening 20 September 12pm-8pm and 21 September 6pm-3am at Pan Pacific Singapore, 7 Raffles Blvd, Marina Square, Singapore 039595. For more information and tickets, see website.

SoKO F1 Weekend Boat Party Edition

If you fancy a different F1 party with a different vibe, UK inspired music brand SoKO might just have the thing for you. Chill out with their signature sounds of UK Garage, R&B, and Bass n Beats with Djs Benny Campbell and Alex Helme from the UK manning the decks this F1 Boat Party. Setting sail from Marina South Pier, we have to say that with their bottle deals – for instance, 5 people pay $700 for a 1.75 litre bottle of Belvedere vodka and a 750ml bottle of Veuve Clicquot – it’s probably the most value-for-money party this weekend.

SoKO F1 Weekend Boat Party Edition is happening 20 September 1-6pm at Marina South Pier, 31 Marina Coastal Drive, Singapore 018988. For more information and tickets, see website.
