Finding a suitable menu for a grand celebration is no walk in the park, especially when we’re talking about Singapore’s 50th birthday party. Returning for its third edition as part of Singapore’s Jubilee (SG50) celebration,TOUCH’s Community Services’ Ultimate Hawker Fest (UHF) return has taken on that challenge and this iconic one-day event is set to succeed at Suntec Convention Centre this November.
Lek Lim Nonya Cake Confectionary
Curated by local food bloggers Maureen Ow (Miss Tam Chiak), Derrick Tan (Sg Food on Foot), and Ian Low (The Silver Chef), UHF 2014 will be honouring the legacy of pioneer hawkers like Rong Cheng Bak Kut Teh, Chey Sua Carrot Cake, and Lek Lim Nonya Cake Confectionary. You’ll find these old-school hawkers, who’ve honed their craft and gained experience through years of dedication and hard work, in the Ultimate Original Recipe zone.
The festival will also witness the Ultimate Ingredients zone making a comeback, which showcases traditional fare prepared with the finest ingredients to create the ultimate dish. So for those who are of the adventurous and eccentric mould, there will be some very interesting experiments like the Elongated Glutinous Rice with Abalone and the Foie Gras Rojak. Adding to the glamour of the festivities are well-known chefs Eric Neo of Intercontinental Hotel, Tan Yong Hua of Restaurant HOME, and Shen Tan, who will no doubt please the crowd with their rendition of our favourite hawker dishes like Otah Otah, Roast Duck Rice, and Nasi Lemak.
UHF 2014 will also see the presence of budding young talents in Singapore’s culinary scene in the Ultimate Pursuit of Happiness zone, such as Douglas Ng of Fishball Story, Gerald and Julyn of Penang Kia, and Wee and Adrian of Old Bibik Beef Rendang. Having left jobs in other industries to pursue their passion for food, these young upstarts have shown that they can mix it with the best in the business!

The most important thing? Admission to UHF 2014 is free and all proceeds of the event will go towards the services and programmes of TOUCH Community Service in supporting the disadvantaged.
