Here’s What to Expect at Urban Ventures 2017 Next Weekend

Returning for its sixth edition amidst the verdant greenery of Duxton Plain Park, Urban Ventures is, yet again, transforming a public space into a platform for people, arts, music, and food. Curated by Singapore-based design studio LOPELAB, expect to dine outdoors, wander through decorated tunnels or even do some yoga on the streets, with our familiar cityscape as the backdrop.

With the sole purpose of reintroducing the community with a new perspective of their city, three days of musical performances, art activities and social interactions, over a wide selection of food, are scheduled to take place this May. Be sure to check out Melissa Tan of Paintinks by melt illustration, as she brings an old pedestrian underpass back to life. That is if you are able to find this ‘Secret Tunnel’. With your aspirations in one hand and some chalk in the other, be part of Irina Chuchkina and Monica Maestre’s interactive art installation, ‘Before I Die’. If you wish to create your own print or perhaps revamp an old t-shirt, there will be workshops from both textile artist Agy as well as Singapore Tyler Print Institute at your disposal.

For those more inclined to the literary arts, head over to Ethos Books’ pop-up to score a curated read or perhaps listen to Ana Sousa Gavin and Shalni Doshi as they engage you in a storytelling session for both the head and the stomach. However, if both the literary and the fine arts elude you, watch the Acro Polates’ Aerial Dance Performances instead. These gravity-defying moves are ones that everyone can enjoy. Alternatively, Jane’s SG Tours will be conducting walking tours for others in need of some heritage and culture.

As day turns to night, groove to the lively beats created by Advent Music, unwind with a session of Yoga by OUTnamaste, join the Communal Dance Party by Pioneer and Darker Than Wax or perhaps Salsa under the stars with Cheryl Wu and May Leong.

Food, drinks and retail can be attained from the Artisans Market. With local musicians crooning your favourite tunes, it’s the ideal setting for a picnic. The adventurous few who crave for a true taste of their city should enquire about a dinner rumoured to be prepared with ingredients picked up from parks in the vicinity.

Psst, fashion and tech enthusiasts, you might have more to look forward for later this year. In August and October, Urban Ventures will be dabbling in fashion as well as playing with a little augmented reality. Mark your calendars or risk major fomo!

Urban Ventures happens 19 May to 21 May, from 7pm Friday till 10:30pm Sunday, at Duxton Plain Park, Singapore. For more details, check out their event page here.
