Utter, the annual pre-festival programme that celebrates Singaporean literature adapted into other artforms, returns this year to spotlight four short stories made into new films, directed by local filmmakers Wee Li Lin, Sanif Olek, Don Aravind, and Kenny Tan, and produced by Nicholas Chee. Each director has adapted a short story in one of the national languages of Singapore.
The films take their inspiration from short stories by Singapore writers Gopal Baratham, Muhammad Salihin Sulaiman, Kamaladevi Aravindhan, and Lin Jin. Past editions of Utter have featured Singapore literary works through the genre of theatre. Utter 2014 is presented by the Singapore Writers Festival (SWF) and produced by Sinema Media.
The Utter 2014 Screening features a selection of four Singapore literary works adapted into short films, directed by four of our best local filmmakers – Wee Li Lin, Sanif Olek, Don Aravind, and Kenny Tan, and produced by Nicholas Chee. Each screening will be followed by a discussion with the directors and writers.
