Visit the World’s First Semi-Submerged Art Gallery in the Maldives

British eco-artist Jason deCaires Taylor has worked with Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi to bring more to the honeymooners’ paradise. Opened this month, The Coralarium was created as a coral regeneration project that brings art and marine life together. A short swim away from the shore, the semi-submerged stainless steel cube at a depth of three meters in the lagoon features rooftop sculptures placed at the top, underwater art pieces and sculptures placed on plinths at various heights to highlight tidal movements. The best part? Materials, textures, and the structure of The Coralarium were designed to become an artificial reef that will eventually become a sanctuary for oceanic critters like fish, octopuses, marine invertebrates, and crustaceans.

One of the pioneer breweries that inspired the resurgence of craft beer in the United States 22 years ago, Stone Brewing is yet making history again by being the first independent American craft brewery to open a tap room in China. Open seven days a week in the largely residential Changning district, craft beer enthusiasts can look forward to 30 taps hosting Stone’s beers as well as rotating guest beers from the world’s most sought-after breweries. The taproom will also be serving craft sodas, eclectic wines, locally-roasted cold brew Nitro coffee from Sumerian, and a menu of world-inspired cuisine.

Flower Power in Sydney

Cherry blossoms in Japan might be the most famous of them all; but it doesn’t mean they don’t look as good elsewhere. For one, the Auburn Botanic Gardens is hosting the annual Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival from 17-26 August 2018, but if you miss it, there’s Tulip Time happening at Corbett Gardens in Bowral, Southern Highlands, from 18 September to 1 October 2018. The latter is one of Australia’s oldest floral festivals, and speaking from personal experience, is truly a sight to behold. When it hits late October and November though, the jacaranda trees will start blooming, so even central Sydney – the Royal Botanic Gardens, Circular Quay, and the Rocks – will see this phenomenon of dreamlike, lavender-hued domes.
