Looking for jewellery that’s unique and great looking too? Good thing that Singapore has a whole slew of jewellery designers then. In a city known for its unbridled creativity and entrepreneurial spirits, here are six quality homegrown brands that will catch your eyes — perfect for one-of-a-kind souvenirs or a personal style boost.
By Invite Only
By Invite Only produces pieces that pair meaning with craftsmanship, making them easy to wear and match from day to night. Its designer is Trixie Khong, a self-taught crafter who believes that good jewellery should add pizzazz to any outfit. One of their most popular designs is a gold double layer pearl necklace ($42) that’s both sophisticated and daring once. Trixie’s Animal Lover collection also comes high in demand, because who wouldn’t want a pair of rose gold pooch studs on their ears?
Shop By Invite Only at #01-43 Wisma Atria, 435 Orchard Rd, Singapore 238877, +65 8733 5101. Open daily 10am – 10pm.
Stale & Co
The philosophy of Stale & Co is rooted in traditional metal-smithing, and boy, do they live up to that. By combining both structured and random elements — the co-founders Daryl Tan and Stella Lim each have distinct styles — their designs are a handsome marriage of clean modern lines and natural rawness. Keep a look out for the signature silver cuff bracelets and rings (which range between S$89 and S$279) from their ready-to-wear collection, each piece individually made in small batches. Did we mention they’ll probably last your entire lifetime?
Shop Stale & Co online or commission a custom project at 237C Joo Chiat Rd, Singapore 427494, p. +65 9737 1739. By appointment only.
Carrie K
With awards like ELLE’s Jewellery Designer of the Year under her belt, Carolyn Kan offers affordable artisanal jewellery with her eponymous label Carrie K since 2009. Contemporary, meaningful, and possibly a tad provocative, her Art Deco-inspired designs are handcrafted by expert leathersmiths in Italy and Turkey and silversmiths in Thailand. Carrie K currently boasts more than 10 collections in its store, including a Modern Heirloom line (from S$398) that puts a contemporary twist on Singapore’s multi-cultural heritage stories.
Shop Carrie K at #02-02 National Design Centre, 111 Middle Rd, Singapore 188969, +65 9061 2880 and other stockists here. Open Mon-Sat 12pm – 7pm.
The Mindful Company
The Mindful Company isn’t just a jewellery brand; it’s also a registered social enterprise that supports causes around mental wellbeing and health — hence the name. The brainchild of Ciara Yeo and Wen Ling Lim, their minimalist jewellery range from reminder cuffs and braids (from S$48) that remind you to “Laugh Often” and “Live Lightly”, to a ‘Places of Calm’ necklace collection inspired by four flowers and plants around Singapore. If you know someone whose life is in constant turbulence, how about showing them a little kindness with these colourful beauties?
Shop The Mindful Company at Design Orchard Singapore, 250 Orchard Rd, Singapore 238905, p. +65 6221 4214 and other stockists here. Open daily 10.30am – 9.30pm.
Amado Gudek
If you love green fashion, this one’s for you. Amado Gudek was founded in 2010 by Raffles Design Institute alumnus Elaine Tan, who discovered her penchant for resin jewellery after a summer course at the famed Central Saint Martins. The result? A quirky assortment of sustainable creations that starts from S$40, made from scratch with bioresin and other eco-materials. No two pieces are the same, whether it’s a pair of clear pleated earrings or necklace of dried plants immortalised inside resin.
Shop Amado Gudek at Resin Play, 1 Coleman St #02-24, Singapore 179803, p. +65 8738 3404. By appointment only.
Liz B
Born out of a desire to create exciting and quality jewellery at very affordable price points, Liz B is the project of homegrown designer Li Ying, who assembles most of her creations by hand in Singapore itself. Her material of choice? Gemstones and crystals such as amethyst and lapis lazuli that are embedded into gold-plated and silver rings, necklaces, and bracelets. Check out her FLOW collection, designed after the fluidity and gentle force of water. And starting as low as S$25, this is the kind of jewellery that’s not going to break your wallet.
