The Weekly Grub: 5 Things to Eat & Drink in Singapore This Week

This week, look forward to 1-for-1 deals when you get Mexican food with Deliveroo, interesting new cheeses at Greenwood Avenue, a tea party with a potential to get really tipsy, and hearty Mediterranean plates in the CBD. Oh, and how can we forget the Taijima Wagyu specials on Orchard Road?

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with 1-for-1 Deals on Deliveroo

It doesn’t really matter if you know what Cinco de Mayo is (hint: 5 May 1862 commemorates the victory of the Mexican army over French forces at the Battle of Puebla), all you need to know if from now till 7 May 2017, selected Mexican restaurants are dishing out bargain burritos (and more) on Deliveroo. For instance, Barrio by Mex Out, Mex Out, and Baja Fresh are all doling out 1-for-1 burritos while you get 1-for-1 Pastor Tacos and Classic Quesadillas at Senor Taco. For the guys at Muchachos, 1-for-1 is only valid for the first 20 orders a day and limited to one redemption per order, so fastest fingers first, guys!

Tipsy Tea Party by The Minute List & Oxwell & Co

If you love gin and tea, and haven’t got plans for this Saturday night, head to Oxwell & Co for a tea party like no other. Instead of sipping on gin-and-tea cocktails on the rooftop, the organisers have decided to bring the party down to street level, so Ann Siang Road will be lined with a Hendrick’s gin pop-up bar and its usual whimsical decorations. Look forward to tea infused tipples ($20++ a cup or $80++ per teapot) such as The Chamomile High Club (Hendrick’s gin, honey chamomile and lavender tea syrup, lemon juice, mint), Ripe Time ((Hendrick’s gin, mango & pandan black tea syrup, lemon juice, rosemary), and Brew on The Roof (Earl Grey infused Hendrick’s gin, indian borrage, lemon, sugar, grapefruit bitters).

Tipsy Tea Party is happening 6 May 2017, 7pm till late, at Oxwell & Co, 5 Ann Siang Road, Singapore 069688.

New Cheeses and Tapas Available at The Cheese Artisans

The Cheese Artisans have been a wholesaler of artisanal European cheese since their founding five years ago and late 2016 saw the opening of their first concept store, complete with retail section and dining area. Some of the new cheeses that Chef Fromager Olive Sutton has decided to bring in include the Choco 21, a blue cheese ripened in chocolate liqueur, then rubbed in cocoa and decorated in chocolate chips, and the Fior d’ Arancio, blue cheese soaked in moscato for that ultimate sweet-savoury combination. While they’re (aptly) known for their charcuterie & cheese boards, The Cheese Artisans is now offering more substantial bites like burgers, crostinis, and even weekend breakfast plates.

The Cheese Artisans is located at 18 Greenwood Avenue, Singapore 289212, p. +65 6463 4686. Open Tue-Sun 9am-10pm.

Bedrock Bar & Grill Launches World Meat Series with Hokkaido Beef

Bedrock’s usual menu might present mostly USDA Prime and Australian produce but they decided to beef things up (pun totally intended) with a line-up of a la carte specials featuring different cuts from around the world. Curated by Executive Chef Isaac Tan, the first part will see the prized Taijima Wagyu from Hokkaido in starters like the Hokkaido Beef Carpaccio ($38) with a drizzle of truffle dressing and Hokkaido Beef Tartare ($38). However, to best enjoy its rich texture and marbling, you might like to go for the Kuroge Wagyu cuts, such as the A5 Hokkaido Wagyu Striploin or A5 Hokkaido Wagyu Ribeye, both priced at $180 for 200g.

Bedrock Bar & Grill is located at #01-05, Pan Pacific Serviced Suites, 96 Somerset Road, Singapore 238163, p. +65 6238 0054. Open 12pm-3pm, 6pm-11pm daily.
