The Weekly Grub: 5 Things to Eat & Drink in Singapore This Week

This week, we have a seafood-centric four-hands dinner, a new, deliciously savoury flavour at one of the best ice creameries in town, lots of porchetta, and a new menu at a fine-dining establishment to boot.

Creamier Collaborates with Lennardy

The folks at Creamier have created an exclusive ice cream flavour with former Masterchef Asia contestant Lennard Yeong. The second installment of the Creamier Collaborates series, which celebrates the artisanal ice cream joint’s fifth anniversary, sees the launch of an exclusive flavour, White Chocolate Miso with Toasted Seaweed. Featuring smooth white chocolate, organic white miso from Nagano, Japan, and it’s topped with crisp seaweed to balance out the sweet-savoury elements. Available 1-31 December 2016 at both the Gillman Barracks and Toa Payoh outlets, the flavour is priced at $4.50 per scoop and $16 per pint. Plus, all proceeds from the sale of the flavor will be donated to Lennard’s charity of choice.

Creamier is located at 128 Toa Payoh Lorong 1, #01-835, Singapore 310128, p. +65 6250 1476, and 5A Lock Road, Singapore 108927, p. +65 6262 1087. Open Tue-Thu 12pm-10pm, Fri-Sat 12pm-11pm, Sun 12pm-10pm. Closed Mon.

Park Bench Deli Goes Porchetta for Christmas

The good people at Park Bench Deli have added two new sandwiches to their mouthwatering lineup for the festive season. The Hot Butter Ball ($16) is a reimagining of the classic Thanksgiving tradition, with slowcooked turkey, brown butter and truffle gravy, and cranberry preserves between bread. The Porchetta Sandwich ($16) sees fennel-rubbed, slow roasted pork belly dressed with caramelised onions and fresh arugula between onion bread with a spread of roasted garlic sriracha mayo. If you just want some of that lovely Porchetta, it’s available at $80 for a 1.7kg portion (minimum three days advance order). Order in-shop or online here, available till 30 December 2016.

Park Bench Deli is located at 179 Telok Ayer Street, Singapore 068627, p. +65 6815 4600. Open Mon-Fri 10.30am-4pm, 5pm-10pm, Sat 10.30am-4pm. Closed Sun.

Salted & Hung: Belly of the Whale Four Hands Dinner

Love seafood? Make your way to Salted & Hung (S&H) on 7 December 2016 at 7pm for a one-night only dinner collab between S&H head honcho Chef Drew Nocente and Chef Markus Dybwad of Snorre Seafood. Besides showcasing their seafood-centric dishes – such as Chef Drew’s fish liver parfait with seaweed and burnt orange, Chef Markus’ Wolf-Fish with grilled lemon hollandaise, daikon and kombu –, the dinner will also debut Chef Drew’s line of seafood charcuterie (something pretty unheard of in Singapore). Priced at $108++ per person, see the full five-course menu here.

Salted & Hung is located at 12 Purvis Street, Singapore 188591, p. +65 6358 3130.

Whitegrass Drops New Menu

If you haven’t been to Chef Sam Aisbett’s year-old modern Australian restaurant Whitegrass yet, this is certainly the time to go. The former Head Chef of Leon Fink and Peter Gilmore’s Quay is no stranger to pushing culinary boundaries. His new dishes are influenced by local flavours, his traditional Japanese leanings, and the freshness of Australian food. The White Cut Free-Range Organic Chicken paired with a trio of artichokes is his homage to chicken rice, while the baked Australian Jade Tiger Abalone is reminiscent of dim sum dining. Japanese fruit lovers will fall in love with his pairing of compressed Japanese pear with pear granita, amazake milk jelly, and shiso leaf ice cream in Niitaka Pear.

Whitegrass is located at #01-26/27 Chijmes, 30 Victoria Street, Singapore 187996, p. +65 6837 0402. Open Tue 6pm-9.30pm, Wed-Sat 12pm-2pm, 6pm-9.30pm. Closed Sun-Mon.
