#willyoubemyfriend

Kelly is a regular teenager who tweets, facebooks and instagrams. She is not part of the popular crowd and seeks solace in the anonymous world of social media. Unfortunately, she does not think twice about adding people she does not know on Facebook and uploading personal information and photographs onto the various social media platforms. It does not take long for Kelly to be swallowed by the cyber Pandora’s box she has unwittingly opened with her irresponsible actions. Join us as we explore what pushes Kelly to turn to the cyber world for comfort and what can be done to help her.

Internet safety is a concern all teachers and parents have when it comes to youths. This forum theatre performance addresses this issue and seeks to emphasise the importance of thinking before doing something especially when it comes to the Internet. It explores why many youths hold a flippant view of their actions on social media platforms and challenges the audience to question their thoughts on these platforms.

#willyoubemyfriend will help students understand what it means to connect with others in cyber space and the consequences of their actions on the Internet.

Gary is one of those proverbial jack of all trades… you know the rest. When not writing about lifestyle and culture, he dabbles in photography, graphic design, plays four instruments and is a professional wearer of bowties. His greatest weakness: spending more money on clothes than he probably should. Find him across the social world as @grimlay
