Zai Kuning: The Fleeting World of Dapunta Hyang

For this site-specific project, Singaporean artist Zai Kuning transforms the Earl Lu Gallery into a space for multi-disciplinary exchange, experiments and performances. Working with students and staff at LASALLE College of the Arts, The Fleeting World of Dapunta Hyang investigates how artistic research finds and moves between different forms: from video and film to writing and musical composition. The project is part of Kuning’s ongoing research into the disappearing art of Mak Yong opera and the pre-Islamic history, arts and culture of the Riau Archipelago between the seventeeth and fourteenth centuries.
