5 Things to Do in Singapore: 24th to 30th April 2017

Forget chicken soup for the soul, the events lined up this week are sure to get you in the pink of health. Groove to the entrancing beats of Bondax and laugh your heart out at the Singapore Comedy Fringe 2017. Alternatively, stock up on your reading material at Singapore Art Book Fair and head to the theatre for an all-time classic ballet.

Objectifs Presents: Equivalence

A thousand photographs of individual aluminium drink cans will be laid out side by side, serving as the bedrock of an exhibition by photographer Stefen Chow and economist Lin Huiyi. Equivalence is part of a series that adopts photography as a medium to shine the spotlight on the economy, social inequality and consumption patterns. It confronts us on how we view daily lives, and the need to remove these tinted lens every now and again, and live, unobscured by individual biases.

SINGAPORE ART BOOK FAIR 2017

Book readers and art lovers may be thrilled to know that Singapore Art Book Fair is returning for its fourth run this year. Brought back after a well-received past edition, Proletariat Poetry Factory will be providing customizable typewritten poetry on the opening night, together with a special performance by musician Kelly Raphaelle. Put together by BooksActually, the fair will gather beloved art books, zines, as well as new artists and publishers. Be sure to check out the debut of a Wall of Women, a dedication to best zines by women from all over the world.

SINGAPORE COMEDY FRINGE FESTIVAL 2017

Singapore’s very own Comedy Fringe Festival celebrates the art of stand-up comedy for the fourth time ever, with over 20 comedians performing in the span of three days. A showcase of the up-and-comers as well as award winners from round the globe, join the fun and giggle along to Harith Iskander, Jimeoin, Kumar, Katerina Vrana and many others.

GISELLE – SAN CARLO THEATRE OF NAPLES AND BALLET COMPANY

Touted as the greatest romantic ballet, Giselle is finally having another run here. First staged in Paris in 1841, Giselle is one of the oldest ballets in the international repertory and tells a tale of the power of forgiveness and redemption against the anguish of love and betrayal. Running for a limited time only, the play is staged by multiple award-winning dancers, Giuseppe Picone and Ekaterina Oleynik. In addition, Singapore is the only continent in Asia where the ballet will be performed. Book your tickets now to secure seats to a ballet not to be missed.

MOONBEATS ASIA PRESENTS BONDAX

English electronic duo Adam Kaye and George Townsend are known for blurring the lines between musical genres with hits like “Just Smile for Me” and “Baby I Got That”. The pair will be gracing the halls of the Millian for one night only. Having played at popular UK summer festivals like Reading, Leeds, and Latitude, expect nothing short of an amazing set from them.
