A THING OF BEAUTY: New work by Dawn Ng

Opening Night: Friday, 16 January 2014, 7 – 9pm
Artist Talk: Sunday, 25 January 2014, 3pm

Chan Hampe Galleries presents A THING OF BEAUTY, by Singapore artist Dawn Ng. This exhibition serves as a preview for this new body of work that will be shown at the Art Paris Art Fair in March 2015.

A THING OF BEAUTY is a series of photographed installations of small, common objects — the objectified minutia of everyday life culminating in a wonderland of monochromatic shades and shapes.

Drawing from symbolism and surrealism, A THING OF BEAUTY forges unexpected relationships between objects from different worlds to create a new visual language through the use of colour, scale, shape and texture. If objects be words or codes, each installation is a puzzle, secret or poem unto itself, containing both the absurdities and profoundness of life found in a grand orchestra of stuff.

A THING OF BEAUTY elevates the most pedestrian things to the most precious by staring straight at ‘invisible normal.’ Each installation recognizes the inherent value of commonplace objects, as fossils and emblems of people, places and memories. The work stands as a flagrant redefinition of what is beautiful and a celebration of the everyday and ordinary.

A THING OF BEAUTY runs from 16 – 25 January 2015 at the Raffles Hotel Arcade Unit #01-26, 328 North Bridge Road. Please note this venue is a pop-up exhibition space located across from Chan Hampe Galleries. The exhibition is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11am – 7pm.

Admission is free. For enquires please call +65 6338 1962.
