One of India’s greatest and most revered living musical legends, Amjad Ali Khan, is the unrivalled Master of the North Indian lute called the ‘Sarod’. Being the sixth generation heir to the illustrious musical lineage that invented the musical instrument Sarod itself, Khan gave his first recital at age 6 and was a national celebrity in India by his teens. In his hands, the sarod produces a rich palette of overtones mimicking the complex tone colours and expressive range of the human voice. Marked by superhuman speed and clarity, Khan’s artistry has attracted legions of fans from across the globe, including the likes of His Holiness The Dalai Lama, Prince Charles, and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Khan is creator of several new Ragas himself and by striking the delicate balance between innovation and authenticity of a rich and intricate classical musical tradition, he produces original works and renditions of timeless value with his own personal interpretations. This performance also features Khan’s two sons, Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan, both virtuosos in their own rights on the sarod and the trio will be accompanied by the talented Tablist Satyajit Talwalkar
Amjad Ali Khan will be performing live in Singapore on Friday, 1 May from 7pm onwards at the Esplanade Concert Hall.
