Other Sounds is thrilled to (finally) announce the debut Singapore performance of Montreal electronic duo Blue Hawaii this September. They will be accompanied by up-and-coming producer FZPZ of Phyla Digital.
Emerging from a burgeoning Montreal scene in 2010, Blue Hawaii formed when BRAIDS member Raphaelle Standell-Preston and producer Alex “Agor” Cowan came together to release an 8-song EP, Blooming Summer, following the pair’s travels in South America.
Their latest effort, 2013’s Untogether, was written over two years as the duo grew apart as a couple, exploring themes of disconnect, alienation and independence. The time apart, Raph says, led them to “really discover who it is we want to be as a band,’ and the result is a “sun-kissed” album, ‘sensually stark, with not one extraneous moment marking its naked contours.’
Blue Hawaii’s first show in Singapore will be supported by newcomer producer FZPZ, who combines the best of jazz and boom bap into the chill trap genre, with his bass heavy and synth elements creating mystical vibes.
Doors open: 8pm
Prices: $30 (standard), $40 (at the door)
