Single malt Scotch whiskies from Speyside in northeast Scotland are some of the most universally enjoyed. This year, come World Scotch Day (27 July), celebrate with internationally acclaimed distillery The Glen Grant. Established in 1840 in the small town of Rothes on the banks of River Spey by brothers John and James Grant, The Glen Grant is known for seductively smooth expressions that are elegant in nature – the result of tall slender stills and revolutionary purifiers.
Today, it’s helmed by Master Distiller Dennis Malcolm, who has worked for The Glen Grant for over five decades (longer than most of us have been alive, in all probability). In honour of its 180th anniversary, the relaunch of The Glen Grant saw a packaging upgrade while retaining its commitment to quality liquid gold. Designed for natural handling and a timeless aesthetic, the modern Victorian look features a unique geometric pattern on thereferencing the distillation process that captures only the purest vapours.
Introducing The Glen Grant Arboralis
Seasoned Scotch tipplers might be familiar with The Glen Grant’s core expressions with aged statements. The golden barley hued 10 Year Old, whose sweet pear and vanilla bouquet strikes a balance with its malty, fruit flavours. The Glen Grant 12 Year Old bears hints of spices and honey on the nose alongside a mouthwatering palate layered with apple pie, toffee, and almonds. Matured in ex-bourbon and re-made hogshead casks, the 18 Year Old delivers a rich, floral aroma with oaky overtones and a malty caramel palate infused with dried raisins and vanilla.
Joining the trio in Singapore this World Scotch Day is Arboralis. Poetically named for the light from within the trees, the latest single malt whisky release pays tribute to the distillery’s signature flavour profile of complexity and elegance. Aged in ex-Bourbon and ex-Spanish Sherry oak casks, the bright golden liquid beams with floral and fruity aromas of dried raisins, honeysuckle, and hints of lemon citrus. Dried fruit meet oak and butterscotch on the palate along with a touch of light spice and a long, elegant finish.
That’s not all! We hear that two special expressions will also be launching in Singapore later this year; the The Glen Grant 15 Year Old and – the one we’re really excited about – the Dennis Malcolm 60 Year Old.
