The late evening often brings comforting silence and serenity, when the mind contemplates on memories and feelings of love. In hindustani classical music, time-specific ragas evoke moods and emotions that are most powerfully felt at certain hours of the day. Light and lyrical, those performed for the late evening are romantic in nature and joyous in creation.
Krishna Rajani – rajani meaning night – is a celebration of a full moon night in praise of the deity Krishna. Through song and narration, the evening’s programme delves into maternal, devotional and romantic love for him – that of Yasodha, his mother; Meera, his devout follower; and Radha, his lover.
In this second instalment of the Chakra miniseries, Krishna Rajani brings together an ensemble of local and regional musicians, featuring Aslam Khan on sarangi, Nawaz Mirajkar on tabla, Raghavendran Rajasekaran on bansuri, Rahul Parasnis on harmonium and with vocals by Sveta Hattangdi Kilpady.
