Once, we trekked across the island for the best hawker eats; these days, they’re coming to us instead. Dine-in might be a distant dream for at least another month, but thankfully, we can still fill up on that cult-status Hokkien mee or sambal stingray at the click of a mouse. Ready to support our beloved hawker heroes with your stomach? Central
A Noodle Story
This mod-sin stall at Amoy Street Food Centre does only one dish – Singapore-Style Ramen (S$9.20/S$12.20) – but it does it very well. Each springy bowl of noods comes topped with tender chashu, plump wontons, and potato-wrapped prawn fritters; a pinch of dried kelp sets off this umami bomb perfectly. Chop Chop Biryani & Meats
Biryani gets bold at this Indian fusion stall. The Pork Masala Biryani (S$7) is a CBD crowd favourite, starring fork-tender pork braised in spice-laden gravy for 12 hours. But you’ll find more surprising crossovers as well, including Siew Yoke Biryani and Salted Egg Chicken (S$7) with new sides like tangy Pineapple Salsa and Pork Masala Gravy. The latest addition to their ‘babiryani’ offerings? Bite-sized pappadum in PappaNachos (S$5) accompanied by their Cheese Mayo, Salted Egg, and signature Pork Masala dips.

Old Tiong Bahru Bak Kut Teh
If you like your broth sweet and gently peppery, this old-school stall is for you. Old Tiong Bahru serves up Bak Kut Teh in traditional Teochew style, with tender pork ribs swimming in a rich, robust broth. Currently, they’re offering delivery sets for 3 pax (S$50 nett) and 4-5 pax (S$88 nett), featuring a medley of side dishes like braised pork trotters, prawns, you tiao, and braised eggs to accompany your bak kut teh.

Tang Kay Kee Fishhead Beehoon
Silky fish head soup is just the tip of the iceberg at Tang Kay Kee. Run by fourth-gen hawkers Debbie Yam and Kamen Tang, this zi char stall puts a fresh spin on the classics. Their wokhei-laden hor fun and mui fan dishes (S$6++), for instance, come with an onsen egg and crispy enoki mushrooms, while the Har Cheong Gai Rice Bowl (S$7) turns the classic chicken wings into convenient boneless, bite-sized pieces.

Jin Ji Teochew Braised Duck & Kway Chap
Duck rice gets a Japanese-style makeover at Chinatown hotspot Jin Ji Teochew Braised Duck. Their signature Bento Combo Jumbo Set (S$10.20) is an artfully plated affair of yam rice shaped into balls and braised duck, alongside offal and perfectly molten lava eggs. While there’re old-school duck rice and noodle options, it’s certainly worth opting for The Quack Ramen (S$8.50) – featuring springy noodles tossed with umami-packed shrimp – or the hearty Quack Donburi (S$8.50).

Thunder Tree Lei Cha
Looking for wholesome soul food? Thunder Tree’s popular brown rice Lei Cha (S$8) is put together from mainly organic produce, resulting in a creamy, pleasantly herbal winner. They’ve got a constantly refreshing rota of specials as well – past weeks have seen indulgent dishes like Lion’s Mane Mushroom Kolomee (S$7) and Hakka Yong Tau Foo (S$4.50). Keng Eng Kee Seafood
This Alexandra Village zi char spot is best known for its Moonlight Horfun (S$9) – topped with succulent seafood and an oozy yolk – as well as its robust, fragrant Coffee Pork Ribs (S$20). Aside from a stellar array of seafood and roast meats, though, Keng Eng Kee is also having an online exclusive for deliveries ordered via their website! The Soft Shell Crab Bundle (S$55) consists of four crabs with delectable Chilli and Salted Egg sauces, as well as six fluffy steamed buns.

KL Traditional Chili Ban Mee
A fiery standout in the foodie stretch of MacPherson Road, KL Traditional Chili Ban Mee serves up supple, chewy noods with plenty of heat. The Signature Chili Ban Mee (S$7) boasts not only minced pork but also three plump meatballs; if you’re up for a splurge, the Signature Abalone Combo Chili Ban Mee (S$17) comes heaped with premium ingredients like abalone, scallops, and clams. They’ve recently hopped onto the boba bandwagon with Thai Bubble Milk Tea (S$4.50) as well.

Seng Kee Black Chicken Herbal Soup
This popular supper spot is still curing our late-night cravings with delish deliveries till midnight. Despite the name, Seng Kee’s star attraction has to be its Pig Organ Mee Sua (from S$5.80) – think gloriously smooth strands in a hearty herbal broth. If offal isn’t your cup of tea, there are prawn and minced pork options as well. And there’s just something about their silky White Bee Hoon with prawns, clams, and sotong (from S$8.80) that’s so comforting.

Ji Xiang Seafood
Planning a zi char feast for the whole fam? This hidden gem in Old Airport Road has a handy slew of set menus (S$88 onwards, for 4-5 pax). Their steamed sotong with wine and curry prawns are hot favourites, and each dish is personally cooked with love by chef-owner Uncle Albert. They’ve got a sprawling range of a la carte options as well, including some very fragrant Curry Pork (S$10++).

Roast Paradise
As the name suggests, Roast Paradise’s KL-style char siew is manna for meat lovers. Think thick, lush strips of pork with a caramelized glaze and nicely charred edges, atop your choice of rice or Hakka-style egg noodles (both S$6.50). For those who like it crackly, their roast pork options also come highly raved.

Jiao Cai Hotplate BBQ
Helmed by a bank exec-turned-second-gen hawker, Jiao Cai is a familiar name in the ranks of Singapore’s best BBQ stingrays. The Sambal Stingray (S$12/15/18) is a true chunky beauty, slathered in tear-inducing homemade sambal. Heat up your feast with some equally fiery Sambal Kang Kong (S$7/10) and tender Sambal Sotong (S$12/18).

One Mouth Noodle
We only have one mouth, and it’s worth stuffing it full with smooth, springy wanton mee. A bold venture by ex-interior designer Jim Yeow, all ingredients here are painstakingly handmade – from the egg noodles to the juicy wantons and smoky char siew. Besides the Signature Char Siew Wanton Noodles (S$4.50), you can also chow down on his swoon-worthy HK-Style Beef Brisket Noodles (S$5.50). Or opt for his Uncooked Egg Noodles (S$6.90) and Uncooked Shrimp Wantons (S$5.90 for 10) and whip up your own bowl!

Ah Tan Wings
No prizes for guessing what Ah Tan Wings is famous for. Their har cheong gai (aka shrimp paste chicken) undergoes a two-day marination, producing golden-brown, sinfully crisp goodness. Nestled alongside a mound of lemongrass steamed rice and some tangy chili, it’s indulgence in a plate. If you can’t get enough of their housemade chili sauce, they’ve started delivering it in jars as well.

Deanna’s Kitchen
Halal prawn mee is Deanna’s Kitchen’s specialty; here, the traditional pork bones are replaced with prawn shells and anchovies. The resulting broth has enough umami to blow your socks off, and comes teeming with plump prawns and juicy fishcakes. If you’re feeling hungry, the Big Prawn & Clams Mee (S$9.30) promises more than enough seafood satisfaction; or make it a party for the fam with their Seafood Bonanza (S$39.50) of prawns, mussels, scallops, crayfish and more.

Bai Nian Niang Dou Fu
This yong tau fu stall is known for its commitment to tasty, quality paste. As opposed to your usual fish paste fare, Bai Nian Niang Dou Fu switches things up with a fixed array of fish, prawn, and minced pork pastes, stuffed into rolls or rolled into bite-sized balls (S$4.90 for 7pcs, S$5.90 for 9pcs). Handmade fresh, each piece is deliciously sweet and bouncy to the bite. They do a range of Asian and Western mains as well, including a surprisingly scrumptious Seafood Cheese Beehoon (S$9.90).

Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak
Circuit breaker can’t cut off this stall’s power to pull in the crowds – all its outlets and vending machines are still up and running. Get your fill of their homely Nasi Lemak Chicken Wing (S$4.95) and Nasi Lemak Otah Otah (S$4.40), featuring aromatic coconut rice and sweet sambal. Their group packages for five pax and above are a steal for the fam as well.

Ming Fa Fishball Noodles
Tracing its fishball empire all the way back to the 1940s, Ming Fa Fishball is a solid go-to for the succulent, bouncy goods. Aside from the classic Fishball Noodles (S$5.30), their Mushroom Minced Meat Noodles (S$5.80) comes heaped with soft, fresh pork slices and liver. Community Platforms
Still hungry? Since circuit breaker began, a handful of community initiatives dedicated to supporting hawkers have mushroomed. These one-stop platforms allow you to discover stalls doing deliveries – with low to zero commission fees for the hawkers involved.
Hawkers United – Dabao 2020
This Facebook group was created by hawkers, for hawkers. The page allows hawkers to share deets on delivery options, with posts organised by districts (or modules) for fuss-free foodie searching. With nearly 290,000 members at this time of writing, it’s a treasure trove for the hawker community.
