It’s that time of the year again, when the buzz of the next Laneway Festival creeps into our lives again. The most magical of music festivals – to indie music fans at least – has once again bestowed upon us an incredible lineup of musicians that’ll grace Singapore next year.
Can you tell that we’ve already gotten our tickets?
We’re also itching to share our most anticipated acts of the amazing set-list of 19 with you in case you’re still on the fence on whether to buy your tickets or not:
Lykke Li
Lykke Li, oh, Lykke Li. How long have we been waiting for you to embrace us with your sweet, sweet tunes and have the echoes of your sound leave our skin tingling? From Little Bit to tracks in her latest album like I Never Learn, Lykke Li has proved that she doesn’t disappoint. Being one of the biggest names of the indie-pop scene, it will be an absolute dream to see her work her magic right in front of us. Hands down, this Swedish singer-songwriter basically sealed the deal for us.
Banks
Get ready for the goosebumps raised by Banks’ haunting vocals and infectious beats – we can already imagine our bodies swaying to her tunes as they glide through the air. If you haven’t heard of her, you definitely should check her out. As a pretty fresh face in the scene with her first song realeased just last February, she has climbed up the indie-pop ladder effortlessly with her unique sound of bass and soul. We are hoping she would perform her debut song If I Ever Met You and also the latest wonder Beggin’ for Thread.
Angus & Julius Stone
With crisp vocals and indie-folk guitar plucking and strums sounding so much like paradise on record, we cannot wait to hear this brother-sister duo live. Everybody knows and will be waiting to hear their signature song ‘Big Jet Plane’, but we’ll also be keeping our ears out for their older tunes like Paper Aeroplane, Babylon and Chocolates & Cigarettes. Are we ready to bring out all our awkward dance moves and fall in love to the bluesy tunes of this talented pair? Hell, yes.
Chet Faker
Chet Faker ain’t no faker. He basically rips our souls out from our bodies and displays them to the world through his soulful vocals and ingenious tunes. If his name doesn’t sound familiar, you might recognize him as the voice behind the music video for “Gold”, featuring the three insanely fit girls on roller skates dancing insanely well. His voice rides on the waves of sound and gives us mighty goosebumps when it rides up and down the vocal mountains in music heaven. And we’re not sorry to say that we prefer his cover of ‘No Diggity’ over the legendary original by Blackstreet.
FKA Twigs
Eccentric, exquisite, and entirely captivating – describes the sound of FKA Twigs perfectly. Her songs are almost like abstract works of art that you experience and get entirely submerged into when they flow through your entire person and shakes everything up inside. She constantly surprises us with a kind of magnetism in her music as she translates her unique character through songs that very obviously belong to her. With haunting vocals accompanied with captivating beats that jerk your soul, it is no doubt that FKA Twigs is an act that we are looking forward to experience.
Jungle
Oh, how we can’t wait to dance to the catchy beats of Jungle! Luring us in with fresh-sounding tunes that seamlessly go with the smooth stretches in their soulful vocals, Jungle will definitely be one of the fun acts to sing and dance to with your mates. Everything that they offer in their music is so smooth that you might just slide right over each note and beat in the music. The Heat and Busy Earnin are a couple of prime tracks that we are excited to jam to.
Other acts we’re also looking forward to include UK rock duo Royal Blood and pop songbird St. Vincent from the US. It’s also really cool that local talents .gif and Hanging Up The Moon will be performing as well. Tickets are priced at $165 (exclusive of booking fee).
St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival Singapore 2015 is happening 24 January at The Meadow, Gardens by the Bay. For more information and tickets, see website.
