Would you recognise the Singapore from a number of years ago?
Singapore is in the midst of an urban transformation. It is turning the famous ‘Garden City’ concept by Ebenezer Howard on its head to become a ‘City in a Garden’. It is not an easy task, with many stakeholders coming together to build this new-age environmentally sustainable city.
Friday 7.00pm: Understand and delve into the future trends in sustainable architectural design with the screening of documentary film ‘Deeper Shades of Green’.
Highlighting remarkable thinkers, far ahead of their times: Ken Yeang, Werner Sobek and William McDonough, these architectural geniuses challenge society and environmental design and radically change the face of not only architecture, but of environmentalism. Narrated by Brad Pitt the episode even starts with a case study of National Library, Singapore!
The screening will be followed by a short discussion and briefing on the next day’s walking adventure.
Saturday 8.30am: Join us for a curated 5km urban trail taking you to Singapore of the old, new and historic with a focus on its sustainable urban aspirations for the future as well as some of its challenges.
Kicking off in the heart of Bras Basah cultural district, we’ll explore environmentally certified buildings of tomorrow and experience the contrast to traditional shophouses from the past. With the bustling city scape on our mind, in the next phase of our walk, we experience the fundamentals of sustainable urban planning which are density and public transportation.
And to top the adventure off, you’ll savour Singapore’s heritage over the best coffee and croissants in Tiong Bahru while learning the importance of it and its conservation.
