TAKING ROOTS // TO RISE

Potters by the Hill is proud to present TAKING ROOTS // TO RISE. This group exhibition features over 100 biomorphic works by veteran Singapore artist Chua Chon Hee and 20 emerging ceramicists under her tutelage, including Adeon, Alan Huang Han Hui, Alexander Gimino, Berry Lim, Bevan Ng, Chris Chong, Chua Choon Lims, Emelyne Fok, Gabrielle Wai, Gideon Wee, Ho Yiling, Janis Lee, Joreen Tan, Koh En Min, Lynn Tan, Natalie Phang, Nate Ng, Veronica, Wong Pei Lin, and Yap Siew Hwa.

From the resplendent expanse of nature reserves, the pastoral hues of agricultural fields, to the verdant lushness in manicured urban spaces, plants have long served as a life-giving resource and an endless source of inspiration for mankind since the archaic beginnings. In parallel existence deep within the tangled heart of woodlands, they manifest as an oppressive force at will, conquering spaces and consuming landscapes with wild abandon. The ceramic pieces on display highlight the artists’ reflections on such dual nature of botanical life. Through formal explorations of flora as subject, the artists also seek to negotiate their symbiotic relationships with the materiality of clay.
