At the nexus of story telling and athleticsm, Bryan Smith came to filmmaking as an experienced kayaker protesting a controversial hydroelectric project that threatened his local run on the Ashlu River in British Columbia. An online version of his first documentary went viral and with it the start of a journey that took him from a virtual unknown to one of the top adventure film makers in the world.
Paddling steep rivers in India, Peru, and Russia, Smith shares stunning images and video photography, with innovative technical solutions to capture dizzying images-inevitably putting himself and his team at risk to get the shot.
Braving raging whitewater in British Columbian rivers; sharing too little space with grizzlies in Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula (where legions of mosquitos are the other voracious predators to fear); and fulfilling the eternal dream of human flight are some of the extreme encounters shared with audiences.
