With cinemas finally opening its doors to the public, this week is already looking way more exciting. To spice it up, we’ve curated a list of virtual and outdoor events to keep you entertained in between your movie marathons. Sweat it out at a bouldering class or marvel at Thai graffiti artist Alex Face’s masterpieces at his solo exhibition. Staying at home? Join in on a virtual whisky tasting or groove to jazzy tunes at Esplanade’s live-streamed jazz concert.
Entangled Intimacies: Transnational Divorce Narratives
Hosted by T:>Works as a part of this year’s virtual Festival of Women: N.O.W., Entangled Intimacies shines the spotlight on the lives of non-citizen migrant married women who are haunted by the threat of transnational divorces. Verbatim accounts of their narratives will be performed by women from the community in a gripping Zoom session. Directed and moderated by Noorlinah Mohamed, the project will also incorporate discussions with researchers and writer Amanda Chong, Dr Quah Ee Ling Sharon and Shailey Hingorani, that uncovers the gender, class and economic inequalities influencing the decisions made by these women.

Grasp The Basics of Bouldering
Take your first step into the world of rock climbing with Kinetics Climbing‘s beginner bouldering class. A form of climbing performed on shorter walls (usually less than six metres) without additional gear, bouldering is the perfect entry point for newbies. Through their session, learn about basic climbing techniques including proper footwork and body positioning that will make your climbing experience a whole lot more enjoyable. Capped at a maximum of five participants, you can look forward to a fun and intimate session with fellow climbing enthusiasts.

Marvel at Alex Face’s Solo Exhibition
You may recognise Patcharapol Tanguren aka Alex Face‘s work from his adorable graffiti along the walls on Spottiswoode Park Road. This internationally recognised Thai street artist will be showcasing his works in his first-ever solo exhibition – titled Fragile – in Asia outside of Thailand at Art Porters Gallery. With Fragile, Alex shares his poetic take on the current turbulent state of the world through murals featuring his signature bunny-like character inspired by his daughter, Mardi. Head over to the gallery to marvel at his works up-close.

Get Jazzy in July with Aya Sekine & Aaron James Lee
Jazz it up at home as Esplanade Offstage presents a series of live-streamed jazz performances throughout the month of July. 24 unique pairings from 43 jazz stalwarts will be taking the stage to wow you with spectacular vocal and instrumental performances. Look out for Japanese jazz pianist Aya Sekine, known for her soulful and dynamic style, and former band member of The Steve McQueens, Aaron James Lee who will be partnering up for a unique performance that amalgamates jazz standards and original material on 16 July. Missed the live stream? Not to worry videos of the performances will be available for viewing till 8 pm the following day.
