5 Things to Do This Week: 2nd – 8th February 2015
PUBLISHED February 1st, 2015 06:50 pm | UPDATED May 9th, 2018 03:13 am
From one of Singapore’s most visually provocative processions to hilarious stand-up comedy routines, and a cool pop up dining experience, here are our top 5 picks of the happenings in Singapore this week.
Thaipusam Festival
This annual festival of Thaipusam sees thousands of Hindus embark on a 4km journey between Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple along Serangoon Road and Sri Thendayuthapani Temple on Tank Road. Those participating in the procession carry milk pots and spiked kavadis weighing more than 20kg to honour the god Murugan’s victory over demon hordes – definitely a sight to behold. The procession will begin at 12.05am on Tuesday (Monday night).
Thaipusam Festival is happening 3 February in Little India.
The Heist
Pop-up restaurant ANDSOFORTH is back with their third immersive dining experience. Influenced by the underground dining sub-culture in London, guests can expect a four-course dinner (from $78 per person) complete with the theatrics of a good story. Looking at their track record – The Hideaway was a tale of rebellious love set on board a ship and The Experience, held during Halloween, starred an alien who wanted to take over our world – The Heist should spice up things up for you this February.
The Heist is happening 5-8 and 12-15 February 2015. The location will be revealed upon purchase of tickets. Each session starts at 7.30pm and ends at 10pm.
The Rishi & Sharul Show
One of America’s most influential comedians, Bill Burr, might also be in town this week, but we’re saving our laughs for a couple of Singapore’s comedy rising stars – and a married couple, to be exact. Rishi Budhrani and Sharul Channa’s 80 minute performance will be chock full of comedic sketches (including original ones by talented local writers) tackling issues like love, sex, marriage, and what all these mean in Singapore. Check out our interview with the power couple here to learn more!
The Rishi & Sharul Show runs 5-7 and 12-14 February 2015 at Black Box, Goodman Arts Centre. For more information and tickets, see website.
Attica Presents Celeste Siam
Last in Singapore for the International Music Summit after-party last year, DJ Celeste Siam is back to spin on our sunny shores this week. Touted as Thailand’s hottest house music export, this icon of Ibiza’s party scene – she was a resident at PukkaUp Ibiza for an impressive 4 years – and appointed Ambassador of Goodwill for Peace & Humanity will be making her appearance at Attica on Friday.
Celeste Siam will be spinning at Attica on 6 February 2015. For more information, see website and check out her music here.
From Isolation to Solitude
This photography exhibition offers a rare and intimate glimpse into the life of a drug addict. Taken by a former addict, Matt, these black-and-white images capture the journey to addiction, the dark and isolated moments, the despair, and the reflection. Whether or not you’re a fan of photography, this powerful collection is worth the trip.
From Isolation to Solitude will be on exhibit at Bar Naked from 6-12 February 2015. Admission is free. For more information, see website.
