My Little Spanish Place – Real Spanish Food

My Little Spanish Place has been knocking around for 3 years, which for a restaurant in Singapore is pretty established. We say it’s obvious to us why this cosy, little, Spanish hideout is holding its own against the ever emerging competitors.
Recently the restaurant had a re-vamp and now showcases an impressive Jamon Bar, consisting of a wide range of Jamon from a variety of Spanish regions, as well as a Spanish pantry, for you to wander through as you wish, making the evening of dining a true Spanish experience.
For me, tapas in Singapore is often over-sauced and quite frankly bodged. We heard My Little Spanish Place was an exception, so straying from the usual tapas suspects of Gambas and the like, we steered towards some of the fresher options. Here’s what we recommend..
.
First off make sure you order lots of the deliciously boozy, fruity Sangria which will pair just nicely with all of the below.
You’d be silly to rock up here without trying the Jamon. To try the best selection pick the Tabla de Cinco Jamones ($75++). If you’re a novice to the world of Jamon, typically the darker and tougher the meat, the longer it’s been cured. The pinker, younger, less cured meats tend to be more popular here as they are sweeter and a lot less oily, but it’s worth comparing some of the different types as you can with this delicious sharing platter.
Order a side of Esparragos a la Plancha ($15++) to go with some of your meatier options. It’s crunchy and fresh, topped with a sprinkling of cheese and ham.
When it comes to The Pulpo de la Casa ($36++), forget all the bad experiences of rubbery octopus you’ve had before. This is surprisingly meaty, flavoursome and succulent.
For the vegetarians among you, the Champinones al Ajillo ($15++) is a triple layered mushroom veggie dream!
Chuletillas de Cordero ($32++) is simply pan fried lamb lightly seasoned in extra virgin olive oil and rosemary with a white wine reduction. Served with potatoes, this dish is plainly perfect and full of natural flavor.
From the mains, we say try the piping hot Paella de la Casa ($49++ Small, $88++ Medium) packed with chicken, seafood and plenty of flavour. One of the best paellas I’ve found in Singapore. Not sloppy and overly salted, but just as Spanish paella should be, naturally flavoursome and filling.
Once you’re done with your Spanish savouries there are two things you really ought to try. The Tarta de Chocolate ($14+) is a super rich teaser of a chocolate tart! A perfect, chocolately end to the evening. Or, if you’ve got some serious room left, then you MUST try the Churros con Chocolate ($12++). Actually, if you don’t have room you can get them to go, so there’s no excuse – personally, I’d come back to My Little Spanish Place again and again for these alone. For any expats out there, if you haven’t had these before, they taste a lot like those sugary ring doughnuts you get in a paper bag at fairgrounds or car boot sales. They come served warm with some dark chocolate sauce for dunking. Without a doubt one of my favourite desserts in town!
Its homey lighting, fantastic service, and family-orientated setting – and, of course, real Spanish food – make My Little Spanish Place worth trekking to Bukit Timah Road for!
