Tourist attractions in Bali are scattered all over the island, which makes transportation an important point to consider if you’re heading over for awhile. So, here are some tips when it comes to getting around Bali.
Taxi
Just like any other place in the world, it’s always smart to check that the fare is charged by the meter. It’s not uncommon for drivers to attempt to take you on a longer route or cite a broken meter when quoting a fixed price fare. Whenever possible, go with Blue Bird Taxi as they are the most reputable taxi company in Indonesia. It’s also best to take note of the driver’s details just in case you leave something in the cab!
Car Rental
If you’re looking to travel to obscure places and exploring spontaneously, renting a car might be a good option. Cars in Bali are right hand drive, so if you’re from Asia, Australia or the UK, it’d be like driving back in your country with lesser traffic lights. Not confident of driving in Bali? Drivers for hire are easily found everywhere. They would be able to ferry you around whilst giving you a brief history of the various sites. Most drivers would have a basic command of English, which would make communicating simpler. When hiring a car, make sure you bring your ID or passport along for identification purposes.
Motorcycle or Scooter Rental
Motorbike rentals are cheaper and easier to find in Bali, but it is advisable to have a license when renting a bike. Even though it’s the most common method of getting around Bali, it’s definitely not one of the safest ways. With crowded roads and the need to weave in and out of traffic, it’s advisable only for those who have experience riding motorbikes. But if you’re dead set on riding one, make sure that you wear a helmet and practice safe driving.
Bicycle Rental
Want to explore the off-the-beaten paths of Bali? Bicycles would be an ideal mode of travel, be it navigating through paved roads or off-road tracks. You can even find bike tours with guides bringing you into villages and rice paddies to show you the local way of life. Bicycle tours usually include helmets, meals, and transport to and fro your hotel. The one day bike tours are rather easy and stress free – the terrain is mostly flat or down slope – allowing even the most inexperienced cyclist a chance to explore Bali on a bicycle.
Tourist Shuttle Bus
To travel to major tourist attractions with minimal cost and hassle, consider using Kura Kura Shuttle Buses. They travel between Kuta, Legian, Sanur , Seminyak , Nusa Dua, and Ubud at regular transit times. The shuttle buses would take you to the heartlands of Bali, and from there, you can take a leisurely walk at your own pace through the area.
