CONTEMPORARY ART EXHIBITION ‘LAKSA IN THE SUMMER OF MY CHILDHOOD’ FEATURING SHAUMYIKA SHARMA LAUNCHES AT SPRMRKT IN APRIL WITH LOCAL AND GOURMET STREET FOOD CANAPÉS BY SPRMRKT AND FRESH FRUIT POPSICLES BY POPAGANDA.
This will be the first art exhibition at SPRMRKT for 2014 and there’s much to look forward to. Starting off as an experimental platform for showcasing art by creative professionals in the architecture and design industries to corporate executives in finance and commodities, the space ‘ is about creating a fun destination for people to connect through creativity, food & art’ says Sue-Shan Quek, co-founder of SPRMRKT.
On the 3rd of April, the space will feature original and commissioned works by Shaumyika Sharma, who was trained as an architect and is Principal of her own design practice in Singapore. Sharma has worked in the fields of design and art across four continents for over 12 years.
Her work (photography) was part of Artbridge: In Plain Site in New York in 2010 and has been exhibited at the Design Cinema WORKS ’08 Exhibition, Istanbul (film), Artists’ Space, Soho, New York (photography) and Zieher Smith, Chelsea, New York (mixed media) amongst others. It has also featured in a TV ad (photography) and a TV series (architecture).
Now at SPRMRKT, ‘Laksa In The Summer Of My Childhood’ is going to be a seminal exhibition that focuses on three themes: change, memories & food culture in Singapore, using three media: cyanotypes, photography and collage.
Sue-Shan says that although they have lived through only five exhibitions, there has been increasing attendance and growth in sales and she is hopeful that Sharma’s exhibition is going to be a popular one.
Joseph Yeo, head chef of SPRMRKT, will be catering a special menu that will see local and gourmet street food remixed into handheld nibbles. And homegrown brand Popaganda will be providing refreshing fresh fruit popsicles to complement inspiring visual art.
Artworks are for sale and all proceeds will be apportioned out to the exhibitee, SPRMRKT and a selected non-profit organisation or charity.
