Fordham & Grand (closed)

Fordham & Grand is one of the newer residents in the Chinatown/Duxton area and whilst jostling with some serious competition in the locale, there are two very, very good reasons for coming here….

1) Fordham & Grand serves up delicious food until 2am

So, it’s past 1am, you’ve been out drinking and you’re starving….BUT, sometimes Spize just doesn’t cut it, and you really don’t feel like trampling over the drunken teenagers and tourists that now seem to litter the floor of Clarke Quay after midnight… So where to go? Boom! Fordham and Grand has you covered. Not only do they serve food until 2am…it’s actually delicious food!

Whether you’re after some late-night Natural Oysters with Mignonette ($5 each) or some chunky Kurobuta Pork Sausages with Mash ($18), you’ll find something super-satisfying to help you feed the beast within.

But then, what about good drinks? Introducing part 2….

2) Fordham and Grand has some of the best (and most affordable cocktails in town)

With experts David and Tron working the bar (formally of La Maison du Whisky), it comes as no surprise that Fordham & Grand’s classic cocktails are well up there. Sourcing some of the finest spirits in Singapore, they are mixed expertly. I was particularly impressed by their Negroni and The Caracas (Rum lovers, ask for this and you will not be disappointed).

More over, what makes these drinks even more attractive is their price – all being under $20. Now considering that most cocktail bars are charging upwards of $22++ for a drink, that’s really quite a bargain considering the high quality of these beverages. Impressive.

Having mentioned all of the above, it would be a bit harsh to not give credit to their regular dinner menu, which as expected, is rather tasty as well with a little something for everyone, whether you’re a vegetarian (try the Green Pea Risotto, $27) or a meat-lover (Beefsteak and Shoestring Fries anyone? $38) or into your seafood (the Lobster linguine is a definite winner – super succulent fresh lobster tossed with a delicately spicy sauce of coriander, chilli and garlic, $30)

As for dessert, for the love of God, please save room for the French Toast with Dark Rum Sabayon ($15) served up with Vanilla Bean ice cream. To say it is extraordinary would be an understatement. Honestly one of the tastiest desserts I have eaten this year. Period.

Whilst oozing a slick, intimate vibe, I’d have to admit that I find the decor a little lacklustre (though I hear some funky new wall-art is coming soon). Having said that, when it comes to quality, service and price point, Fordham and Grand really punches above its weight. Whether for dinner, cocktails or a late supper, Fordham & Grand is prepared for you.
