From 17 – 25 August 2018, the Singapore Night Festival returns for its 11th edition to transform the loneliness of dusk into an arena of dazzling performances and lifestyle offerings at the Bugis and Bras Basah precinct. Don’t miss out on the rousing showcase of artistic talents and the miscellany of sights and sounds, along with hot retail sells – here’s a run-through of what you can expect this year!
Festival Village
Happening the weekend of 23 – 25 August 2018, the well-received Festival Village is back this year with performances of poetic narratives and spellbinding sounds. Cadence, Cosmic Child, Fatim Guzel, Umar X Hasyir, and Astronauts are just some of the musicians gracing this year’s festival stage, with DJ Tang bringing the stage to life later in the night with his ultra smooth mixes. Apart from the festival’s eclectic music lineup, pleasure seekers can grab munchies over at pop-up food houses to binge during the performances; alternatively you can ease up with a little retail therapy at the flea market.
Backyard Sessions@Armenian
Show some support for this year’s local acts at Armenian Street as you sway to covers of your favourite tunes and impressive new originals over the weekend of 23 – 25 August 2018. Expect to hear flawless, pitch-perfect voices from the likes of Alicia Nadine, Sulaiman Azim, and Sam Driscoll, as they drive you to tingle-inducing harmonic moments. SMU Eurhythmix, Singapore Management University’s official hip-hop dance club will also be joining the party to show off some fancy footwork and body popping. Keep a lookout for SMU’s premier A Capella club, SMU Voix, which proves that music can sound just as beautiful without instrumental accompaniment!
The Duel by Lords of Lightning
Get ready for the most jaw-dropping, high voltage experience of this year’s festival as you hang on to your seats and marvel at two bodies in electric combat. Picture two men hurling bolts of white-hot electricity at each other while providing a mystical display of currents in the vicinity, leaving you in a state of awe. Having performed at shows across the world, the English team will be putting up an explosive performance of epic proportions from 23-25 August 2018.
Night Lights
Witness mesmerising downpours of visual light installations that are of an other-worldly beauty at this year’s Night Lights. Designed by a collaborative community of artists specialising in light technology, be immersed into 14 colourful projections of bright lights that seem almost magical to the eye. The Aquatic Dream by Auditoire & Lekker Architects is something you might want to look out for, with its under the sea theme that submerges you to the depths of the ocean.
