New year, new ways to get feasting! Singapore’s dining scene is sure kicking 2022 off with a bang, with sizzling new grill spots, fusion concepts, droolworthy bakeries, and more. If ever you needed an excuse to ditch those new year fitness resolutions, these newly opened restaurants, cafes, and bars in Singapore will make your calories count.

Restaurants

Osomatsu

Said by a host, osomatsu translates to ‘it was no big deal of a meal’ – a modest phrase typical of the ever-humble Japanese. But the newly launched Osomatsu kitchen and bar in KINEX is certainly worth making a fuss about. Helmed by acclaimed local chefs Angus Chow and Justin Foo, the extensive izakaya-style menu features meaty skewers alongside inventive decadence like Uni Ikura Tart and tender Shiromi laced with truffle. For an immersive experience, opt for their upcoming seven-course Omakase Menu (S$160/pax).

Osomatsu is located at #02-21, KINEX, 11 Tanjong Katong Road, Singapore 437157, p. +65 9235 9419. Open daily 11.30am-2.30pm & 5.30pm-10.30pm.

Rosemead

Serving up a stylish slice of modern California, Rosemead is the latest restaurant in the Jigger & Pony Group’s stable of concepts. Set along Cecil Street – in the heritage building formerly occupied by The Black Swan – this breezy eatery promises a convivial fine dining experience. Executive Chef David Tang draws on his memories of his Californian hometown to craft a menu intriguingly divided it into three categories – chilled, vegetables and grains, and cooked over orange and lychee wood embers. Each category revolves around seasonal flavours carefully sourced from local and regional producers. See review here.

Rosemead is located at 19 Cecil Street, Singapore 049704, p. +65 9781 9084. Open Tues-Sun 6pm-10.30pm. Closed Mon.

KOAL

A sizzling new concept by the Les Amis Group, KOAL brings the essence of the culinary arts back to the basics – the glowing open flame. The restaurant marries Western and Eastern charcoal grilling techniques, producing a range of smoke-laced Asian plates. Head down to feast on their three-course set lunches, featuring showstoppers like Grassfed Rib Eye (S$30) and Salmon Fillet (S$30). The dinner menu is just as impressive, with everything from Charred Broccoli (S$8) to Ox Tongue (S$16) to Prawns with Beurre Blanc Sauce (S$20) bearing the smoky kiss of the grill.
