One of the most influential bass players in modern music, Nathan East has spent over 35 years playing alongside the biggest names in music and with over 2000 credits to his name; he is among the most recorded bassists in history.
Nathan has recorded, performed and co-written songs with artists such as Anita Baker, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Babyface, Quincy Jones, Al Jarreau, David Benoit and co-wrote the #1 hit song “Easy Lover” with Phil Collins & Philip Bailey.
His background in Jazz and Popular Music has earned him numerous awards including the ‘Most Valuable Player’ (bass category) at the International Rock Awards and “Bassist of the Year” at three of the last four National Smooth Jazz Awards ceremonies. He is one of the original members of contemporary jazz group Fourplay (Bluebird/BMG) along with Bob James (keyboards) and Harvey Mason (drums). Their Grammy nominated albums have earned Gold status and continue to top the Billboard Contemporary Jazz charts.
An extremely versatile player, Nathan first played on a Yamaha BB bass guitar while touring in Japan with Lee Ritenour. Its sound, the way it feel, and overall quality were impressive, but what fascinated him the most was that it felt right from the first note. Nathan has been hooked on Yamaha ever since and he has developed his own Signature Series bass guitar, the BBNE2, together with Yamaha.
Nathan East will conduct his Bass Guitar Clinic on Monday, 9 March at 7.30pm at The Grand Marquee, Hotel Fort Canning.
