Well top of the mornin’ to you, Nomads! And isn’t it a glorious day?! Are you feeling it yet? Are you feeling it?!! Something green is in the wind, and I don’t mean any fecking haze from Sumatra.
It’s coming…. Next weekend in fact! (14th – 16th March)… St Paddy’s day is almost here… In fact, there’s a whole weekend of festivities celebrating all things Irish.
Alright, alright, back to reality…this is Singapore, not Dublin but if you stopped by last year you’ll already have a pretty good idea about what is about to go down and sure as the Good Lord himself, those Irish know how to throw a cracking party!
2013 St Patrick’s day saw over 20,000 people attend the three-day party in the CBD and this year is priming up to be bigger and better than any year yet. In fact, bet you didn’t know this but Singapore is home to Southeast Asia’s largest Irish celebration! Too right we say!
‘Eight years after the first St. Patrick’s Day parade in Singapore, 2014 promises to further cement Singapore’s position as the premier destination for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the region,’ said Parade Chairman, Colin MacDonald, ‘Over the years, the St. Patrick’s Day Festival has grown to include the Irish, Singaporeans, other expatriates and even tourists. We hope even more people will get some green on and come experience what Ireland has to offer!’
So what can you expect over such a fabulous, massive weekend ahead?
On the music front, you’ll be treated to a myriad of performances by Irish traditional dancers, as well as both Singapore-based Irish folk and rock bands, and home-grown bands throughout the weekend. Boat Quay and Circular Road will also be the main hub for all things Irish during the St. Patrick’s Day Street Festival. There will be street artists including face-painters and balloon artists, as well as roving magicians to entertain. Another all-things-Irish fun treat for the kids? Green candy floss!
For the hungry Nomads amongst you, there will be Irish food and drink promotions running at participating Boat Quay restaurants and bars, such as Molly Malone’s, Uncabunca, Public House, Mogambo’s, Boomerang and The Vault to name a few. Patrons will be able to sink their teeth into Irish favourites such as Beef and Guinness pie and Irish stew.
And for you drinkers out there preparing to go on the lash, oooooh it’s going to be a good weekend! Knock back a few pints of the black stuff (Guinness) or the only authentic Irish Cider in Singapore, Magners and you’ll be well on your way. In fact, for every Magner’s Cider you swill, you’ll receive a fine hat the colour of the Emerald Isle to help you get in the spirit of things! You’ll be dancing a merry jig in the street in no time at all.
Feens, feeks, ladies, gentlemen and the wee babbies too… may the luck of the Irish be with you!… Oh, and here’s a little something to get you in the mood 🙂
