The Vault’s Artist Launch: Sufian Samsiyar | Koja:nis

The work of Sufian Samsiyar responds the complex issues surrounding urbanity that present themselves in our landscape and architecture today. His series of work, titled ‘Koja:nis’ is based on the cult film ‘Koyaanisqatsi’ (Life out of Balance) directed by Godfrey Reggio, which reflects a sense of disillusionment to modern life through footages of cities and natural landscapes across the United States. Reggio commented that the pervasiveness of technology has become as ubiquitous as the air we breath in; Sufian’s work reflects upon this notion and seeks to explore how this is apparent in the decay within our landscape today.
