Top 5 things to do in Singapore this week: 10th – 16th February

This week, in our round up of top things to do in Singapore, if we have our wicked way with you you’ll be laughing, singing and dancing ’til the end of the week with hilarious theatre, the longest running Broadway musical of all time, one of Asia’s biggest DJ exports, and the islands best Sunday session. And yes, we know, it’s Valentine’s Day so we’ve made sure there’s something for both singles and couples – we can’t say fairer than that! Check out our pick of top events this week:

1. Catch a Fat Pig!

No we’re not encouraging you to go running around a farm after a squealing four legged pink thing but telling you to go and see Pangdemonium’s latest play Fat Pig on stage.  A hilarious and award-winning ‘rom-com’ involving a plus sized lady called Helen and a bittersweet love story, it’s a slyly observed comedy of manners, prejudices and taboos.

Fat Pig is showing from 13th February – Sunday 2nd March 2014  at DBS Arts Centre, 20 Merbau Road, Robertson Walk, Singapore 239035. For more information and ticketing see SISTIC here.

2. Fall in love with musical theatre with My Fair Lady

Cockney flower girl Eliza Dolittle rolls into town with one of the most famous and long running Broadway musicals of all time – My Fair Lady. Get ready to sing along to classics like ‘The Rain in Spain,’ ‘Wouldn’t It Be Loverly’ and ‘Get Me To The Church On Time” in this beautiful story about the clash of different cultures – a must for all musical theatre lovers!

My Fair Lady is showing from 11th – 23rd February 2014 at Marina Bay Sands Theatre, 10 Bayfront Avenue, Singapore, 018956. For more information and ticketing see the Showbiz Asia website here.

3. Celebrate being single or coupled up this Valentine’s Day

Celebrate being single with your tongue firmly in cheek at the various singles parties happening across the island. Our top picks include Suprette’s Traffic Light Party, Lucha Loco’s Anti Valentine’s Day Party or the You’ve got (fe)Male Valentine’s Day Singles Party at Cafe & Bar Gavroche. If you’re coupled up, why not opt for something a bit more imaginative than the usual straight forward V Day dinner with East 8’s The Great Valentine’s Day Escape or Marmalade Pantry’s night of Casablanca romance up at The Stables?

For a full round up of what’s happening this Valentine’s Day see our events listings here.

4. Get lost in music at Singapore Island Culture Club featuring Aldrin

If you couldn’t give two hoots either way about Valentine’s, but would rather fall in love with awesome music, then there’s a great alternative.  One of our favourite DJs – Aldrin – will be taking over the decks at Kyo for a night of infectious nu disco, indie dance, deep house, UK garage/bass and re-edits at KYO. Organised by Singapore Island Culture Club, expect to get lost in music with awesome visuals, alongside Singapore’s creative stock, influencers and dreamers.

Singapore Island Culture Club featuring Aldrin takes place on Friday 14th February from 10pm til late at Kyo, 133 Cecil Street, #B1-02, Keck Seng Tower Singapore, 069535. For more information see here.

5. Kick back with BBQ and beats at Sunday at The Training Shed

After a three month break, our favourite beers, beats and BBQ Sunday session is back at Labrador Park with its usual fusion of good vibes, great sounds  and live street art, making Mondays feel just that little bit further away. This month on the bill at Sunday at The Training Shed is dub band Wobology, plus The Spaced Out Show for a special live video broadcast, as well as the usuals.

Sundays at The Training Shed takes place on Sunday 16th February from 3pm til late at The Training Shed @ Labrador Park, 8 Port Road, Singapore 117540. For more information and updates Like the Sideshow Facebook page here.
