18th GERMAN FILM FESTIVAL 2014

Yes, it’s indeed the 18th birthday of the German Film Festival. The year 2014 marks several historic anniversaries of the 20th century: The centenary of the beginning of World War I, 75 years of the outbreak of World War II and the 5th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The German Film Festival will be commemorating these events with a series of films.
It will begin with DIPLOMACY, by the Oscar-winning director Volker Schlöndorff. It will be presented together with our French friends at the opening night of the festival. In this intimate chamber piece, the fate of Paris is being decided through closed door negotiations in times of war – a rare and gripping moment in the relations between our two countries.
Having turned 18, they’ve also decided to make this a grown-up festival with adult themes.
The 40 movies in this festival reflect life in all its facets, its tragedies and joyous moments. Some of these films are very fresh, and have just come out of production. Some of them feature impressive international stars, while others showcase the stars of the future.
Being adult also means not forgetting the younger ones: The popular Children’s Section makes sure there are many family moments in this year’s festival.
