Cantonese meals always bring to mind memories of intimate family gatherings, heartfelt conversation, and longstanding tradition, though as times change, more restaurants in Singapore are elevating the cuisine with unique modern interpretations. At City Nomads, we do love some good innovation when it comes to food, and as such, we present four modern Cantonese dinners in Singapore that you should check out toward the end of 2017. All the quintessential elements of Cantonese cooking (intricacy, wholesomeness, and elegance), and beyond!
A Scrumptious Cantonese Buffet at Seasonal Tastes
Seasonal Tastes at The Westin Singapore may not be known for its Cantonese fare, but this upcoming buffet of Cantonese-inspired looks set to change things around. Whipped up by Executive Sous Chef Yeo Eng Woon – who’s had more than two decades worth of stints in Cantonese restaurants under the tutelage of Hong Kong chefs – you’ll fall in love with bold-flavoured dishes such as the Wok-fried Mud Crab and Glass Noodles with XO sauce, Fried Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs, Braised Beef Brisket and Tendon with radish, Braised Fresh Fish with Pork Belly, and the most nourishing Cantonese slow-boiled soups.
And let’s not forget the staples the restaurant is known for, from the freshest seafood and crustaceans on ice to a hearty selection of roasts, a la minute pasta, and all the cakes and desserts you can dream of.
Available: 22 September to 30 November 2017, 6pm – 10pm daily
Price: $88++ per adult, $44++ per child aged 4 to 12 (free for ages 3 and below). Till 30 September, UOB Cardmembers enjoy 1-for-1 for adult diners, limited to first 60 diners per day. 50% off every second adult diner thereafter.
Seasonal Tastes is located at The Westin Singapore, 12 Marina View, Asia Square Tower 2, Singapore 018961. For reservations, please click here, call +65 6922 6968, or email to [email protected].
Friends of Mitzo Dinner Series x Shen Tan
Remember Chef Shen Tan from the immensely popular Wok and Barrel and Madam Tan’s Nasi Lemak at Maxwell Food Centre? The local food icon is the third and final part of the Friends of Mitzo Dinner Series, which sees the contemporary Cantonese restaurant collaborating with some of Singapore’s top mod-Sin chefs to create an impeccable Cantonese-inspired dinner – with Labyrinth’s LG Han and Morsel’s Petrina Loh being the first two participants. While the menu for this dinner has yet to be announced, we’ve seen what Chef Shen can do (Grilled Laksa Salad, Buah Keluak Pasta, or Otak-Otak Wrap, anyone?) and this news has us salivating for more.
Available: 15 to 16 November 2017, 7pm – 9pm daily
Price:Â $118++ for a six-course dinner ($168++ per person with cocktail pairing)
Mitzo is located at L4 Grand Park Orchard, 270 Orchard Rd, Singapore 238857. For reservations, please call +65 6603 8855 or email to [email protected].
New Signature Dishes from Golden Peony’s Chef Ku Keung
The award-winning Golden Peony, together with Executive Chinese Chef Ku Keung, has dreamed up some impressive new additions to its menu. With a new sustainable seafood front, look out for highlights like the Pan-Seared New Bedford Scallops topped with jelly fish and passion fruit, or the Baked Iberico Pork Collar wrapped with pancetta and laden with a piquant black pepper sauce. Perhaps the most noteworthy creation is the Blue Prawn, a culinary jewel from the turquoise blue Caledonian lagoon. The naturally sweet prawn (which can be consumed whole) is stuffed with housemade spicy fish paste and dried shrimps, coated with almonds, and fried to a brilliant crisp.
Available: From 4 September 2017
Price: As per menu
Golden Peony is located at L3 Conrad Centennial Singapore, 2 Temasek Blvd, Singapore 038982. Open Mon-Sat 11.30am – 10.30pm, Sun 10.30pm – 10.30pm. For reservations, please call +65 6432 7488 or email to [email protected].
