5 Things To Stream At Home This Week: 30th March to 5th April 2020
PUBLISHED March 29th, 2020 06:00 am
Social distancing is the watchword of the month, so for the next few months, we’ll be bringing you your fill of city adventures through your screen. As you stay in and stay safe, we’ve got your back with a weekly curation of virtual events from Singapore and the world – think club raves, concerts, fitness streams, theatre programmes, and more. Let’s still be city nomads – from the safety and comfort of our couches.
This week, the show goes on(line) for theatre and opera houses round the world. There’s no better time to get your dose of Shakespeare with London’s Globe Theatre, or join the New York Met Opera as they stream opera’s greatest classics. Groove out with a nine-hour line-up of hiphop’s hottest singers, or cook up a storm with a Michelin-starred Italian chef.
Rave On at FADER FORT 2020
Once an A-list, invite-only rave in Austin, FADER FORT goes online this year with a nine-hour broadcast. The 40-act lineup will see some of hiphop’s glitziest stars light up our screens – Kesha will debut her cover of The Beastie Boys’ ‘Fight for Your Right’, and Ashnikko will grace our ears with her hit single ‘Tantrum’ (while getting a wax, reportedly). Throughout the day, The FADER will also be fundraising for charities involved in COVID-19 aid efforts.
FADER FORT 2020 is happening on 31 March 2020 from 10am–7pm EST (10pm–7am SGT). Tune in here.
All The World’s A Screen with The Globe Player
From Singapore to London, the curtains have sadly closed on theatres round the world – but that doesn’t mean we can’t get our drama fix. London’s famed Globe Theatre is bringing Shakespeare to our screens with a treasure trove of filmed performances, spanning over ten years of its production history. Watch a gender-fluid take on Hamlet come to life on your laptop, enjoy laughter therapy with Emma Rice’s naughty A Midsummer Night’s Dream, or let Nancy Meckler’s tempestuous King Lear take your breath away.
Catch The Globe Theatre’s Shakespeare productions here. Rental is priced at £4.99.

Play Masterchef at Home with Massimo Bottura
Ever dreamt of cooking like a Michelin-starred chef? With his three-starred restaurant Osteria Francescana closed for the moment, Italian kitchen maestro Massimo Bottura is dishing up his edible art via Instagram. Dubbed Kitchen Quarantine, his live cooking show features one easy recipe for home cooks each night, from Thai vegetable curry to tortellini. It’s a rare chance to cook along with a master chef – here’s hoping his knack for marrying flavours and upcycling scraps might rub off on us.
Catch Kitchen Quarantine on chef Massimo Bottura’s Instagram page, every night at 8pm CET (3am SGT).
Start Some Drama with the New York Met Opera
New York’s Metropolitan Opera is giving us an encore of its finest performances with free daily streams. While last week was all about Wagner, this week’s Live in HD promises plenty of political intrigue with Verdi’s Macbeth and John Adam’s Nixon in China, alongside tragic numbers like Bellini’s Norma. Be sure to tune in speedily – each production is released at 7.30pm EDT (7.30am SGT) each day, and will only be available for 23 hours.
