A letter to Gordon Ramsay – Singapore awaits you!

Dear Chef Gordon Ramsay,

You’re finally opening up shop in Singapore and like many loud-mouthed foodie journalists, I have much to say about it.

First and foremost – I think you are a loud, rude, offensive Chef of a man (of course you must hear this all the time, so I do apologise)…and I absolutely respect you above pretty much all celebrity Chefs in the world. The fact that you are finally opening a restaurant on our shores is genuine reason for me to celebrate. Bread Street Kitchen is it? British/European cuisine? That excites me, truly.

I feel like you’ve been heading down this road for a while now… Your contemporaries Jamie Oliver and Jason Atherton have established themselves here already and I very much feel you are the final piece of the puzzle of excellent British culinary skill representing itself in Singapore.

A lot of people are going to be writing about your combined 7 Michelin stars amongst your restaurants, or about your incredible success as a television Chef….others will talk about your Hawker battle with local stars and debate who really should have won each round. Frankly I don’t give a damn about all that.

I’m a London-raised chap myself and unashamedly a long time fan of your cuisine, style and utter rawness. Through the swearing which you are famous for, I see true unadulterated passion for your craft…your willingness to dive in, explore other cultures and cuisines and take your hat off when you’re presented with a master of another craft. To this I take my hat off to you.

I wait patiently for your restaurant opening, wish you the best of luck. This is going to be legendary.

Best regards,

Alexander Linton
