This week, we have a new breakfast spot in the CBD, delicious Cantonese set menus, and a Chilean wine pairing dinner. We also unveil a revolutionary bar tool and a delightful cake collection.
Gemmills’ Grab and Go Breakfast
If personal experience is anything to go by, we all need some help sometimes snapping out of the semi-catatonic state induced by the phenomenon known as morning. Gemmill’s Grab and Go coffee corner is a superb antidote; a quick coffee ($3-$4 depending on type) and invigorating breakfast food (think toast, croissants, and pastries for $3.50-$4) for the day ahead. Those who can afford the leisure can also choose to dine in.
Gemmills is located at 110 Amoy Street, #01-02 Singapore 069930, p. 6221 5564. Entrance from Gemmill Lane. Open Mon-Fri 8am – 12am, Sat 11am – 12am.

Whether you’re a Cantonese food connoisseur or just looking for a good meal with friends, Golden Peony has something for you. Executive Chinese Chef Ku Keung’s Tasting Menu ($100++) is an expertly curated 5-course tasting menu for the discerning, while their Dim Sum Weekend Experience ($59++) allows you to indulge in an array of dim sum dishes you know and love. Monkey Shoulder’s Konga Shaker
It looks like an unassuming thermos flask, but Monkey Shoulder’s Konga Shaker is a revival of a once-popular tool from the 1930s. The shaker’s handles allow cocktails to be made with a rolling instead of a shaking motion. With a larger capacity (to make three or four cocktails at one go) and such potential for theatrics and showmanship, the Konga Shaker is set to shake things up.
Monkey Shoulder is collaborating with 4 different bars, 28 Hong Kong Street, Cufflink Club, The Flagship, and Employees Only, with each bar will serving a concoction made with the Konga Shaker so you can be the judge of whether it’s better than the regular shaker tins!
The promotion runs from 25 Jul to 24 Aug 2016. Cocktails start from $20.
Antoinette’s 2016 Cake Collection
In their latest endeavour, Antoinette has revealed 4 new cakes lighter and more refreshing flavours. Charlotte will please those with a soft spot for fruity flavours and vanilla, while Brittany is a chocolate lover’s dream. Fans of all things pink will love Superlova with its raspberry and rose petal flavours, and chestnut fanatics will go nuts for Marronette.
Antoinette is located at 30 Penhas Road, Singapore 208188 and 333A Orchard Road, #02-33/34 Mandarin Gallery, Singapore 238897. Opening hours here.
