Alternative Weekend Activities in Singapore!

It’s Friday, the clock hits 6pm, and everyone starts filing out of the office. Only thing is, you’re gutted at the idea of yet another standard weekend, where you get drunk and treat the hangover as best you can the next day. You tell yourself to find something else to do, but you go along with what’s familiar anyway. To break this monotonous streak of routine, we’ve compiled a list of Alternative Weekend Activities for you to get your kicks, ’cause weekends are meant to be awesome!

Forest Adventure

Forest Adventure Singapore

Ever imagined yourself swinging from one tree top to another like Tarzan? Well, at Forest Adventures, you get to be the king of the forest by conquering multiple adventure courses amidst the greenery of Bedok Reservoir. For pure adrenaline junkies, the zip line across the body of water is as good as any other extreme activity and leaving with excitement coursing through your veins is all but guaranteed. Fear of heights? Fear not. There’s different levels of difficulty, great for the machomen AND for those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground.

Forest Adventure is available at Bedok Reservoir Park.

Water Football

A hilarious way to begin your weekend, Water Football is the wet version of playing football (right on, Captain Obvious). Breaking things down, an inflatable court is filled with ankle deep water with two goalposts on each side. All rules of a normal football game apply, the difference being that you and your best buds will be trying the utmost best to run and kick a football to comical effect. Be warned though, all competitive levels will drop due to the nature of the game and the copious amount of laughter involved.

Water Football is available at Kovan Sports Centre.

Paintball

Paintball Singapore

Whoever invented this game is seriously a genius, since, frankly, there’s not many things more fun than shooting your best friends all over with paint and running away laughing. Grab a group of buddies and get engaged in your best sharpshooter mode, as you duck paint bullets and pull a few of your own Counter Strike moves. A word of caution however, the paint bullets really hurt and to remind everyone who isn’t a Rambo, this game is purely survival of the fittest!

Try: Red Dynasty Paintball Park, Paintball Alliance and Crossfire Paintball.

Brewery Tours

Dogs, cats, jewellery, burgers, your grandma playing a saxophone, whatever; these things aren’t men’s best friends. That honour goes to beer! And you know what they say, best friends have no secrets. Brewery tours are where you can poke and pry their deepest, darkest truths – like what they’re made of, how they tick, and how they package themselves – to your hearts’ content. Did we mention you get to drink your best friend during the tours as well?

The only Brewery Tour available in Singapore is Tiger Beer Breweries.

Zorbing

Zorbing Singapore

Zorbing – the recreational activity of rolling downhill inside an orb made of transparent plastic. Although Singapore has a lack of elevated terrain to roll down on, we do have Land Zorbing where you’ll get to spin 360 degrees till your stomach has had enough. If you desire a physical challenge, there is none more testing than playing football in a Zorb orb, not to mention the amount of time you’ll spend laughing at yourself. Also, your plastic orb isn’t limited to ground activities as you get to roll about in water as well!

Zorbing is available at Zovb Singapore.

Treetop Walk

In this urban jungle of ours, places where nature can run amok are few and far between. Explore the wondrous beauty of nature by walking amongst the treetops of Singapore and discover a world that you only thought was possible by googling or exploring another country. Get in touch with Mother Earth by admiring how she was like before we started building skyscrapers, and really get a breath of fresh air.

The Treetop Walk is available at MacRitchie Nature Trail.

Indoor Rock Climbing

Release the inner monkey in you by scaling rock climbing stations on your days off. You’d be surprised at how therapeutic climbing a wall with artificial rocks can be, while naturally, your confidence and fitness gets a boost as well. Also, the feeling of going higher step by step can simply be exhilarating. If you have a fear of heights, well, this is a great way to let go of inhibitions and master your fears.

Try: Climb Central, Climbers Laboratory and Kinetics Climbing.

Farm Visiting

Farm Visiting Singapore

When we hear the word farm, we visualise big rolling meadows and wide open fields that just aren’t possible due to our lack of space. But what’s surprising however is that Singapore actually has a diverse range of farms, and they’re all cool with the public checking them out! From animal farms with rabbits and frogs to vegetable bistro farms, all of them are well worth a visit, we say.

Try: Jurong Frog Farm, Hay Dairies, The Animal Resort and Bollywood Veggies.

Horse Riding

Previously limited to riders who had a membership, Horse Riding is now as readily available as the convenience store under your HDB block. Okay, we exaggerate, but supply is definitely growing. If you don’t adore these gentle creatures already, horse riding is definitely one thing to try, even if its just to experience the de facto mode of transport before the birth of automobiles.

Try: Gallop Stable, Singapore Turf Club Riding Centre and Singapore Polo Club.

Pottery Classes

Pottery Class Singapore

Most of you must be wondering why we even included this…Pottery?! Rest assured we haven’t gone off our rockers – the creation of something is always beautiful, and what better way to showcase that than to make something of your own. Pottery classes are a wonderful way to find out if you’re able to produce something satisfyingly long lasting, and the intricate patterns woven on the clay is a challenge for anyone.

Try: Contemporary Clay Studio, Sam Mui Kuang Pottery and Clay Street.
