Manchester-based creative arts team Global Grooves offers high-quality specialist training in inspirational international performance arts: Music and Dance; Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, West African, and South Asian drumming, dance, and song, photography and art. We regularly exhibit the work of both local and international visual artists.

Global Grooves began in 2001 as a small collective of percussionists and workshop leaders in the Northwest of England, responding to an obvious demand in the area for more advanced and expert training in every arts discipline from Brazilian drumming to Afro-Cuban song.

Leon Patel – Percussion


Leon is at the helm of Global Grooves, having committed over a decade to sharing his passion and knowledge of percussion and song from around the world – including Brazilian, South Asian, West African, Cuban, and Western musical styles.

Eraldo De Sá Marques – percussion

Eraldo joined Global Grooves in 2004 following a series of collaborative workshops delivered by Meninos do Morumbi. He’s now their artistic manager, percussion tutor, and international liaison. Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Eraldo brings a cheery, grounded energy to their often hectic and exciting schedule of events.

Adriana Rosso – Dance

Adriana has studied and danced with Meninos do Morumbi and Gaviões Da Fiel Samba School in São Paulo where she was twice Princesa da Bateria in 1997/98. She soon became a lead dancer and teacher at Meninos do Morumbi and in 2005 she came to the UK to work with Global Grooves and deliver large-scale cultural dance projects across Europe.

Genevieve Estevez-Baker – Dance

Genevieve has been involved in Afro-Brazilian dance since the age of 13, where she studied at Meninos Do Morumbi Oldham, the UK’s only sister project to the internationally renowned social project in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She furthered her training by travelling to Brazil for her year 10 work experience at the age of 15 funded by British Airways Communities and Conservation for excellence in Dance. There she studied with Meninos Do Morumbi, in São Paulo. This opportunity advanced her understanding of not only dance, but also percussion, song and carnival culture.

Music extraordinaire Rumshot, aka Firmann has always been passionately rooted in the music scene. Since his early years when he started out as a percussionist, and brass band player, he has always crossed many genres of music. Firmann continues to keep his roots firmly placed in the: Reggae and Ska (as founder of DSH soundsystem); World Music (founder & drummer for Instigator Afrobeat Orchestra) and Brazilian / Latin ( founder and ex-member of Wicked Aura Batucada and member of Novo Bloco); scenes, as well as a professional music teacher, musician, and sound engineer.

Rumshot is sure to rock the dance floor with his all-time favourite selections and eclectic mix for you to skank your socks off to, heightening your rhythmical delight.

Wan is the founder of Straits Records – the sole record store in Singapore that offers a wide variety of alternative and hard-to-find collection of music and vinyl. He has been in the music scene for most of his life; an avid and recognized collector and distributor of music.
