Canvas Creative Space Presents: Merzbau
PUBLISHED June 26th, 2015 04:17 am | UPDATED May 9th, 2018 03:13 am
In the spirit of Kurt Schwitters’ living sculptural collage of the same name, ‘Merzbau’ presents a confluence of
works by contemporary artists from Jakarta, Bandung and Yogyakarta, beginning an unending dialogue on
the discovery of an Indonesian identity through the creation of art.
The collection of works in this exhibition explore the expanding and shifting consciousness of life in Southeast
Asia – the reflection of self in a predominantly collectivist society, and the invention of a language to portray
new attitudes towards social tension and political strife.
By bringing the works of 14 different artists across the region together, Canvas Creative Space hopes to offer
a glimpse at the diversity of Indonesia’s burgeoning art scene and the lives of the artists behind it. The line-up will feature artists such as Abenk Alter, Adine Halim, Adnan Roesdi, Amarawati Ayuningtyas, Arvie Juvians, Debra Raymond, Destawan, Eddie Hara, Pondra Gilang, Petek Sutrisno, Rendy Aditya, Rewinda Omar, and Vendy Methodos.
The event will take place from 23 June – 24 July at Canvas.
